Foster Home Application Requirements

To be considered for afostering through Windy City Canine Rescue, applicants must:

Be at least 21 years of age.
Have the knowledge and consent of all adults residing in the household.
Complete the foster application in its entirety (including LAST NAME of all individuals in the home). Incomplete applications will not be considered, and due to the volume of applications we receive, we may be unable to contact applicants regarding missing information.
Understand that submission of an application does not guarantee approval for fostering. All applications are subject to review, and final adoption decisions are made at the discretion of Windy City Canine Rescue.

Do you have a fully fenced yard? If yes, please indicate the type of fencing and the height.

If your yard is not fenced, please explain how you intend to safely manage and supervise the dog when it is outside.

Are there any situations in which the dog would be tethered or tied outdoors? If so, please provide details regarding the circumstances and duration.

When travelling in a vehicle will the dog ride in a crate, carrier, or with a safety restraint?

Please describe how you would house-train a foster dog, including your approach to establishing a routine and reinforcing good habits. Please note we do not guarantee housetraining due to limited information provided at the time of surrender, and setbacks can occur in a new home. We ask that you explain how you would handle such situations.

We cannot guarantee that a dog will be house-trained. Are you prepared to provide consistent, patient, and positive reinforcement-based training if needed?

Please describe how you would handle behavioral issues such as chewing, excessive barking, house training setbacks, or other common behavioral challenges in dogs.

Would you be willing to attend obedience classes for your foster dog?

Do you have access to a vehicle to transport your foster dog to appointments and events?

Are you willing to take your foster dog to veterinary appointments as needed, at a time that is reasonably convenient for you?

Are you willing and able to administer medication to your foster dog if needed?

Have you had experience caring for a dog that has been emotionally or physically neglected or abused?
