We are people that have ancestrally belonged to what is now considered the American Southwest y el Norte de Mexico - Aridoamerica, for hundreds of years. Our antepasados have long belonged to the “Rayado Culture” of painted/tattooed peoples of this region. We carry our desert traditions on our flesh and in our lifeways. Our relations to the mountains, rivers, fire, night sky.
In our time, the political border has marked our identities, our languages, cultures. We dedicate this lifetime to preserving what hasn’t been lost and continuing traditions. To uplifting all of our relations, to bringing all people back to our essence through the practice of marking the flesh.
We are proud to see so many reconnecting people embracing each other, their identities, their histories. And we remind everyone of the importance of this revitalization work - May the next generations look to us for guidance and May our lineages always strengthen.
