  • Use this form to apply for a Permit Authorisation under Wildcare Australia Inc. for:

     

    • Rescue activities of general (least concern) and specialised species
    • Rehabilitation of general (least concern) species
    • Rehabilitation of specialised species

    There have been significant changes to DETSI protocols and the Wildcare Group Permit recently.  You now need a Permit Authorisation if you are undertaking wildlife rescues, even if you are not a Rehabilitator/Carer.

    The Wildcare Group Permits for general (least concern) and specialised species, have been combined into one permit. 

    Before completing the application, please read the following to ensure you have the required information and photos ready to upload. 

  • RESCUE PERMIT

    Recent changes to the Nature Conservation Act 1992, require wildlife rescuers to now hold a permit to undertake rescue activities.

    RESCUE PERMIT FOR GENERAL SPECIES – if you wish to be endorsed for wildlife rescues for general (least concern) species:

    • You must have completed the compulsory Rescue and First Aid for Wildlife rescue workshop.  Please do not apply until you have completed this workshop. 
    • You will need to provide details of your rescue equipment for general wildlife species (i.e. birds, possums, gliders, small reptiles, joeys etc).

     

    RESCUE PERMIT FOR SPECIALISED SPECIES – if you wish to be endorsed for rescues of specialised species (e.g. koalas, echidnas, snakes, bats, raptors, waterbirds, seabirds):

    • You must have completed appropriate training for the appropriate species. 
    • You will need to provide details of your rescue equipment for the relevant species.
    • You will need to upload photos of specialised rescue equipment (e.g. koala cages, koala rescue poles, echidna bins, snake rescue equipment) for the specialised species you wish to be endorsed for. 

    Note:  If you are using Wildcare-owned rescue equipment, you do not need to upload photos of that equipment – simply detail the equipment and make a note that it is Wildcare equipment - e.g.  Koala rescue cage (Wildcare).

  • REHABILITATION PERMIT

    If you are planning to rehabilitate/care for wildlife at home, please note the following:

    Geographical area for permit authorisations

    • Wildcare will consider permit applications for rescue and rehabilitation activities in the following Council regions: Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Logan, Brisbane and Ipswich.   
    • Wildcare will consider permit applications in a limited capacity in the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Gympie and surrounding areas (primarily for existing rehabilitators and koala rescues). 
    • Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to support carers in other regions.  If you live outside of these regions, please email us at permits@wildcare.org.au.

     

    Training

    • For new permit requests, you must have completed the relevant training for each species you are wishing to care for. 
    • For renewal permit requests, you must have completed relevant updated training in the prior 18-month period.

     

    Photos of your Equipment/Facilities

    • You must upload clear photos of all cages, aviaries and enclosures relevant to the species you wish to care for. 
    • If this is a renewal request, you will still need to upload current photos (unless you submitted an application within the prior 6 month period).
    • Applications with no supporting photos, will not be processed. 
    • If you cannot upload photos through this online application, you may email them to permits@wildcare.org.au. 

     

    Local Council Requirements

    We recommend you check your Local Council’s website to ascertain their local laws for keeping animals.  Most Councils restrict the species and numbers of animals according to property size.  This may be relevant if you wish to care for certain bird birds.

    You must have suitable rescue equipment for each species to ensure compliance with relevant Codes of Practice, the Wildcare Safety Manual and species-specific training manuals.  

    We have assisted you by detailing below common rescue equipment.  You can select from the list below the items you have. We understand that some rescuers will only have basic equipment and that's okay! You don't have to have all of these items.

    If you are applying for endorsement to rescue a specialised species, please indicate the rescue equipment you hold suitable for the species.  You don’t necessarily have to hold all the equipment listed for the species, but you do need to have basic equipment. 

    To assist you, we have included below a list of suitable rescue equipment for each species you may select.  Only select items you have.  

    If you are not applying for a rescue permit for specialised species, leave the sections blank and skip through to the next step.

  • Birds - Raptors

  • Shorebirds include:  Ibis, Spoonbill, Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, Darters, Cormorants, Pelicans)

    Seabirds include:  Gannets, boobies, frigatebirds, tropicbirds, petrels, shearwaters, albatross)

    The PRIMARY PERMIT HOLDER is the person who has the most responsibility with wildlife in care.  

    The SECONDARY PERMIT HOLDER is generally someone that assists the Primary Permit Holder with wildlife in care.  If you wish to have them included on the Permit, they must have completed relevant training as well.
