• Webinar registration: Acoustic Emission in Microdeformation Experiments

Presenter: Dávid Ugi, fellow researcher at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest

Host: Márton Péter Iritz, application specialist at Technoorg Linda

Explore the fascinating world of microplasticity: the microscopic deformation events that ultimately determine the macroscopic mechanical properties of materials. Join us for an exciting presentation at the intersection of materials science, mechanics, and statistical physics.

While plastic deformation has long been known to occur through discrete, localized events rather than as a continuous process, recent advances in experimental techniques have enabled researchers to investigate these phenomena with unprecedented resolution.

David Ugi, fellow researcher at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, will present in situ micro-deformation experiments and highlight remarkable results obtained by a research team led by István Groma and Péter Dusán Ispánovity at ELTE, in collaboration with international partners including Szilvia Kalácska and Krisztián Máthis. The group was the first in the world to integrate acoustic emission (AE) measurements into these experiments. This innovative approach has revealed new insights into the dynamics of dislocations that govern plastic deformation in metals and uncovered universal scaling relationships between dislocation avalanches and earthquakes, despite their vastly different physical origins and scales.

At Technoorg Linda, we are committed to supporting outstanding scientific achievement and providing visibility to exceptional research. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to present a webinar featuring one of the recipients of the 2025 Barna Árpád Award.
