HEAD OF OPERATIONS — DBC BIRMINGHAM
Role: Head of Operations
Location: Oldbury, Birmingham — site-based, with occasional travel to our London operation
Reporting to: The Managing Directors
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Closing date: Friday 1 August 2026
Build a Business. Shape a Team. Create a Centre of Excellence.
Design Build Cast is a specialist precious metal casting company serving the UK jewellery trade. Our reputation has been built on technical excellence, quality and outstanding customer service, producing castings in gold and platinum for jewellers and brands throughout the UK.
Design Build Cast operates as one team across two locations — our established London operation and the new Birmingham facility. Following significant investment, we have created a purpose-built manufacturing site in Birmingham, equipped with industry-leading casting technology and designed for future expansion. It represents the next stage in our company's growth.
We are now seeking an exceptional Head of Operations to lead the development of the Birmingham business. This is not a role where you inherit a fully established operation. It is an opportunity to build one.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Birmingham facility has been created with a clear long-term vision: to become a centre of excellence for precious metal casting. The technical capability is being established. The investment has been made. The next stage is to build the operation. Working directly with the Managing Directors and senior team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how the business develops, establishing the systems, standards, processes and culture that will allow Birmingham to grow into a highly organised, efficient and customer-focused operation.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Managing Directors, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operational leadership of the Birmingham site. Working alongside our experienced Head of Casting and technical specialists, you will ensure every aspect of the operation functions efficiently and continues to develop as the business grows.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the Birmingham facility
- Building an organised, efficient and customer-focused business
- Developing operational systems, procedures and standard operating processes
- Creating effective production planning and workflow management
- Building and directing the CAD function
- Establishing quality assurance and continuous improvement programmes across the operation, working alongside the Head of Casting, who retains technical authority over castings
- Establishing meaningful operational KPIs and performance reporting
- Developing customer service processes that deliver an exceptional client experience
- Representing the Birmingham operation to trade customers and building strong external relationships
- Recruiting, developing and mentoring the Birmingham team
- Building a positive, accountable and professional working culture
- Working closely with colleagues in London as part of one integrated team, with occasional visits between sites
- Supporting the Managing Directors in delivering the long-term strategic growth of the business
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone with the ability to build organisations rather than simply manage them. You may already hold a senior operational leadership role within manufacturing, engineering, technical production or another quality-driven environment. Experience within the jewellery industry would be advantageous, but it is not essential. More important is your ability to understand complex manufacturing operations, introduce effective systems and inspire confidence in those around you.
You will be:
- An exceptional organiser with strong operational discipline
- A confident and approachable leader who develops people
- Comfortable balancing strategic planning with day-to-day operational management
- Commercially aware and capable of making sound decisions
- Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving skills
- Passionate about continuous improvement and operational excellence
WHY JOIN DESIGN BUILD CAST?
This is an opportunity to become one of the key people shaping the future of a growing business. Rather than stepping into an established management role, you will have genuine influence over how the Birmingham operation develops — real autonomy, a blank canvas, and the backing of an established group behind you.
SALARY AND PACKAGE
Competitive salary, dependent on experience, together with:
- Company pension contributions
- Five weeks' holiday plus bank holidays
- Private healthcare
- Semi-flexible working hours once the Birmingham operation is fully up and running
