      Beyond the Façade: Interior Design as Spatial Curation

       

      Architecture gives us structure: walls, grids, volumes, envelopes. Yet buildings do not come alive at the façade. They come alive within.

      Beyond the Façade positions interior design as an act of spatial curation. It is the deliberate shaping of how spaces are experienced, interpreted, and inhabited. If architecture constructs the physical framework of a building, interior design curates its human narrative.

      Interior designers choreograph movement, frame perceptions, layer materials, modulate light, and shape behaviour. They negotiate between structure and scale, permanence and modularity, public and private. Within the architectural shell, interior design becomes the discipline that transforms space into place.

      Spatial curation is no longer aesthetic enhancement, it is strategic intervention. Interior designers reinterpret existing forms, activate underutilised volumes, and construct experiences that influence how we work, gather, learn, and heal.

      Presented within Singapore Archifest, this convention invites a deeper conversation: Not where architecture ends and interior begins but how interior design extends architecture into lived experience.
