The Second World Qualification Tournament represents the final opportunity for boxers to secure quota places for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. As the last event in the Olympic qualification pathway, the tournament plays a decisive role in determining the remaining athletes and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that will earn the right to compete at the Games.
The competition will feature the seven Olympic weight categories for men and seven Olympic weight categories for women. A total of between 28 and 36 Olympic quota places will be awarded, comprising 14 to 18 quota places for women and 14 to 18 quota places for men, depending on the allocation of quotas across the weight categories.
Participation is restricted to NOCs that have not yet qualified an athlete in a specific weight category through the 2027 World Boxing Championships, the relevant Continental Qualification Tournament, and/or the First World Qualification Tournament. Eligible NOCs may enter one athlete in each weight category where they have not already secured an Olympic quota place.
Quota places will be allocated to the highest-ranked eligible athletes in each of the seven women's and seven men's Olympic weight categories, based on the number of quota places available per category as defined in the Olympic qualification system. Allocation of quota places will be made in accordance with the maximum quota limits per gender for each NOC.
As the concluding event of the Olympic boxing qualification cycle, the Second World Qualification Tournament will bring together elite athletes from across the globe in a highly competitive environment where the final Olympic places are at stake. The event offers host cities and countries the opportunity to deliver a world-class international sporting competition with significant sporting, media, and stakeholder interest, while showcasing elite boxing and generating global visibility in the lead-up to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
