The First World Qualification Tournament is a key event on the pathway to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, providing one of the final opportunities for boxers to secure quota places for their National Olympic Committees (NOCs). The tournament plays a crucial role in the Olympic qualification process, ensuring that the world's leading athletes have an additional chance to earn participation rights for the Games.
The competition will feature the seven Olympic weight categories for men and seven Olympic weight categories for women. A total of 48 Olympic quota places will be awarded, comprising 24 quota places for women and 24 quota places for men.
Participation is restricted to NOCs that have not yet qualified an athlete in a specific weight category through the 2027 World Boxing Championships and/or the respective Continental Qualification Tournament. Eligible NOCs may enter one athlete in each weight category where they have not already secured an Olympic quota place.
Quota places will be allocated to the highest-ranked eligible athletes in each of the seven women's and seven men's Olympic weight categories, based on the number of available quota places per category as defined in the Olympic qualification system. Allocation of quota places will be subject to the maximum quota limits per gender for each NOC.
As a major event within the Olympic boxing cycle, the First World Qualification Tournament will bring together elite athletes from across the globe in a highly competitive qualification environment. The event offers host cities and countries the opportunity to stage a world-class international sporting competition with significant sporting, media, and stakeholder interest, while showcasing elite boxing to audiences worldwide.
