The Fondren is a 22,000 sf mixed-use development in the heart of the Fondren District of Jackson, Mississippi. The project includes retail space on the ground floor, office space, and Duvall Decker’s new studio on the second floor. An open courtyard opening to the south will provide parking, a pickleball court, and flexible gathering and neighborhood event space. The scope of the project includes renovation of the western portion of the existing two-story structure and the addition of a new two-story mass timber building wrapped with a metal panel façade. The building is a low-consuming, low-carbon footprint design utilizing a mass timber structure, super-insulated envelope, shaded windows, and solar power electric generation panels on the roof. The studio space is illuminated by northern dormers providing a dynamic interior space tied to the cycles of the day, season, and weather.
