  • APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    Thank you for your interest in applying for employment with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office!

    This application form is intended to evaluate your BASIC qualifications for employment.

    Completing this form does not constitute an offer of employment, does not guarantee an offer of employment will be made, nor does it constitute an employment contract.

    The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for FULL-TIME positions only. Part-time positions will not be considered.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    Answer all questions completely and accurately. Any intentional false or misleading statements made on this form or during any employment interviews and/or testing are grounds for terminating the application process or, if discovered after employment, will result in terminating employment.

    All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to sex, marital status, race, age, creed, national origin, or the presence of disabilities.

    Individuals selected for further processing will be required to provide more detailed, additional background and personal data.

    Additional testing of job-related skills and physical and psychological fitness for duty may be required.

    Testing for the presence of drugs/alcohol in your body will be required prior to and during employment. 

    DISQUALIFIERS

    Please note, certain factors such as felony convictions or dishonesty in the application process may disqualify candidates from consideration.


    Applicants for employment of the Sheriff's Office in any job classification shall be required to meet the following standards:

    • Shall not have used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed any illegal controlled substance within the twelve (12) months prior to application
    • Shall not have used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed any illegal controlled substance classified as a Schedule I substance (except cannabis) or Schedule II substance as enumerated in LA Revised Statutes Title 40 within the sixty (60) months prior to application.
    • Shall not have sold or delivered any illegal controlled substance at any time.
    • Shall not have had a felony conviction in the past five (5) years for which one could have received a sentence of greater than ten (10) years in prison.
    • Shall have no pending misdemeanor charges for criminal offenses.
    • Shall have no hit and run convictions.
    • Shall have no convictions of battery on police officer.
    • Shall have not more than one (1) accident per each three (3) years of driving experience for positions that will regularly drive a department vehicle.
    • Shall have no military discharge for less than honorable reasons.
    • Shall have no false statements/omission of material fact.
    • Shall have no unexplained gaps in employment history.
    • Shall have no unstable employment history.
    • Any employee who resigned, in lieu of termination, for criminal and/or policy violations shall not be eligible for reappointment.

    Applicants for employment of the Sheriff's Office in job classifications of deputy sheriff, corrections deputy or any other classification that requires operation of an agency motor vehicle to regularly and routinely perform the essential functions of the position shall be required to meet the following standards for appointment to the job classification:

    • Possess a current valid Louisiana driver's license.
    • Not more than one (1) accident per each three (3) years of driving experience for positions that will regularly drive a department vehicle.
    • Not have been convicted or pled to LA R.S. 14:98 - Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, during the sixty (60) months prior to date of application, nor more than one time total.
    • Not have been convicted or pled to LA R.S. 14:108.1 - Flight from an officer; aggravated flight from an officer, during the sixty (60) months prior to date of application, nor more than one time total.
    • Not have been convicted of any criminal traffic offenses as defined by LA R.S. 14:96 through 14:100, during the sixty (60) months prior to date of application, nor more than one time total.

I authorize the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office to conduct criminal history record checks through local, state, and federal databases, as permitted by law, for employment-related purposes.

  • I understand and acknowledge that in connection with my application for employment, a thorough background investigation will be conducted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

    Authorization
    In connection with this investigation,I hereby authorize the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office (TPSO), its employees, agents, representatives, and any authorized third-party contractor acting on its behalf, to conduct a comprehensive background investigation for employment purposes.

    I understand that this investigation may include verification and review of information relating to my employment history, education, military service, criminal history, driving record, financial responsibility, professional licenses, character, reputation, personal references, and any other information relevant to determining my qualifications and suitability for employment.

    I authorize any individual, employer, educational institution, governmental agency, law enforcement agency, licensing authority, military organization, financial institution, credit reporting agency, healthcare provider as permitted by law, or other organization having knowledge of my background to release such information to TPSO upon request.

    Authorization to Obtain Records
    I specifically authorize TPSO to obtain and review records including, but not limited to:

    • Employment records and personnel files;
    • Attendance records;
    • Performance evaluations;
    • Disciplinary records;
    • Separation records;
    • Educational records and transcripts;
    • Military records, including discharge documentation;
    • Criminal history records as authorized by law;
    • Motor vehicle and driving records;
    • Court records;
    • Professional certification and licensing records;
    • Credit history reports, where permitted by law and relevant to the position sought;
    • Any other records deemed relevant to evaluating my suitability for employment.

    I understand that any information obtained by a personal history background investigation, which is developed directly or indirectly, in whole or in part upon this release authorization, will be considered in determining my suitability for empoyment by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. 

    I understand that all materials pertaining to this background investigation become property of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office and will not be returned to me.

    I understand that in the event the investigating agency finds conduct that is illegal or unbecoming of a police officer and I am currently serving in the capacity of a police officer in a jurisdiction, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office has my permission to disclose the inforation to any current employer. 

    I further understand that in the event my application is disqualified, the confidential information or source(s) of information will not be revealed to me. 


    Release of Liability
    I hereby release and hold harmless the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff, its employees, agents, representatives, and all persons, organizations, agencies, and institutions providing information pursuant to this authorization from any and all liability, claims, damages, or causes of action arising from the lawful collection, release, disclosure, or use of information obtained during the background investigation process.

    This release shall not apply to any person or entity that knowingly provides false information or acts with malicious intent.

    Continuing Authorization
    I understand that this authorization shall remain valid throughout the hiring process and, if employed, may be used for any lawful employment-related investigation, administrative inquiry, security review, or internal investigation as permitted by agency policy and applicable law.
