  • ABOUT MUSIC SUBCULTURES AND CULTURAL IDENTITY PHOTO SERIES:

If you have roots connected to Mesoamerica, this open call is for you. This photo series celebrates the rich diversity of music subcultures and the ways they intersect with heritage, identity, and cultural memory. From rockabilly, goth, darkwave, metal, and punk to mariachi, Tejano, and beyond, we are looking to photograph people whose lives are shaped by the music scenes they belong to and identify with.

We want to photograph musicians, music lovers, DJs, collectors, dancers, and scene participants exactly as you are. Wear the clothing and style that reflect your music community and personal identity.

Through these portraits, we hope to highlight the beauty and diversity of our communities and the many ways music becomes part of who we are. This project explores how music, fashion, and cultural memory are carried across generations, creating spaces of belonging, self-expression, and community.

    • Participants are invited to bring a meaningful object such as a photograph, textile, record, instrument, piece of clothing, or personal item that connects to your history, culture, identity, and relationship to music.
    • Guests are invited to leave handwritten reflections, adding their voices to the evolving archive displayed on the gallery walls.
