  • ResisDANCE Collective

    Liberation Through Movement and Activism
  • Anybody Can Tap | Soft Shoe Edition!

Sunday, June 28th, 1:00-3:00pm; 350 Tacoma Community Hub; 311 Puyallup Ave, Tacoma, WA; ADA-accessible; Cost: FREE; IG: @resisdancecollective; email: resisdancewa@proton.me
  • Workshop Description

Learn about one of the many ways Black history intersects American Dance History. Tap is one of the original American-made art forms. Jovon will guide us through the beginnings, introduce us to various tap legends, and show us that tap history is American history! Whether you have no dance experience, or even a lot, there is plenty to learn for all skill levels. We'll learn the basics of Tap, enhance our understanding of music, and learn some famous tap dances all without tap shoes. Wear your own comfortable shoes or sneakers. After working our bodies and minds, we'll cool down together with a hands-on activity to support our local community. This month, workshop donations are encouraged to go toward Our Sisters' House, a Tacoma organization doing critical work for our community.
  • Benefiting Organization: Our Sisters' House

Our Sisters’ House leads, empowers, and inspires change to end gender-based violence, including domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and teen dating violence, through culturally specific, trauma-informed prevention, intervention, and advocacy services. Rooted in and accountable to Black and African American women, girls, and court-involved youth, we foster positive youth development and create pathways to safety, healing, and long-term well-being. Through community-driven solutions, we work to reduce violence, address systemic inequities, and strengthen the communities we serve.
  • Teaching Artist: Jovon Miller
