• Fallen London: Palimpsest

    GenCon 2026
  • Fallen London: Palimpsest is a rules light one-shot larp with precast characters for up to 96 players. It's set in the world of Fallen London created by Failbetter Games.

    Fallen London: Palimpsest
By the decree of the Traitor Empress, it is the year 1899, and London is a shadow of what it once was. It would be heretical to suggest it's been 1899 for over six decades, but some whisper it nonetheless. As time passes on the Surface, it has become more difficult for the Empress to maintain control. A delegation has arrived in Port Carnelian to negotiate the fall of the Sixth City.

  • The year is 1899. Just like the year before, and the year before that. It's been 1899 longer than most Londoners can remember.

In London itself, the fashion is strictly Victorian. Certain countercultural fashions have been declared contraband, and the constabulary—who some regard with the vulgar slang "bobbies"—enforce the Crinoline Decree at their discretion. Conservative characters and those who curry the Empress's favor dress exclusively in Victoriana, with some Neathy eccentricities of course. This year, fungal motifs are all the rage.

But you’re in Port Carnelian, far from the pearl-clutching gossips of the Shuttered Palace.

Scandalous new fashions have trickled down from the Surface, and daring characters may mix a few illicit elements into their traditional London Victoriana. For a time, beaded drop-waist dresses became extremely fashionable in certain Bohemian circles, though this is regarded as passe these days. In more progressive circles, you may see a mini skirt paired with a Victorian jacket and parasol or go-go boots peeking out under a bustle. You'll even sometimes see newcomers or eccentrics dressed in sharp mod styles.

But if you want to play it safe, a well-assembled Victorian outfit will never steer you wrong, even in Port Carnelian.
