What is a Community Affinity Group?
A Community Affinity Group is a collective, campaign, or organization operating independently of the Concordia Student Union (CSU) that seeks formal recognition and collaboration based on shared political alignment. Such recognized groups will receive facilitated access to funding, resources, and institutional support from the CSU.
Who can apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be operationally independent of the Concordia Student Union (CSU)*.
- Demonstrate substantive alignment with the CSU’s Positions book.
- Demonstrate at least (2) consecutive years of active organizing or advocacy.
*Note: Concordia students may submit an application on behalf of an organization, but the participation of a Concordia student in the organization or the application process is not a requirement.
Additional guidelines:
Applicants must submit a proposed annual budget outlining projected revenues and expenses.
How long are groups recognized for?
Recognition is valid for one (1) academic year and may be renewed annually.
How does the review process work?
The External and Mobilization Committee is responsible for overseeing the application process. Recognition requires approval by a simple majority vote of the Committee and ratification by the Council of Representatives.
