  • BUT FIRST... WHAT IS A MAKE ALONG?

A make along (or MAL) is a community crafting event, which can be held in person or online. It usually entails working on a specific project, or selecting one within a common theme. Each participant creates their own piece while sharing their progress with the group. It offers a lovely opportunity to meet other makers and exchange experiences, stories and tips, all the while working towards a common goal.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN A MAKE ALONG?

Crafting can be a lonely experience. And while that's often exactly what we need, it's nice to connect with other people over shared interests. Joining a make along is a great way to make new friends who enjoy the same hobbies. Within the group you'll also find a supportive atmosphere, with people cheering you on as you learn new techniques and offering kind words when things don't go as planned. You might encounter some likeminded people, and at the same time some fresh new ideas and perspectives to enrich your making journey!

  • ABOUT THE DAMAS TOP

The DAMAS top is a mixed media summer top combining crochet, knitting and sewing. The design elevates the granny square to create an elegant and fun summer garment. To achieve that, the motif is shrunk to resemble filigree jewelry, replicated in high contrast colors and set on a diagonal lattice. The work is framed in delicate knit edges and embellished with dainty buttons.

More on the DAMAS top can be found in the Ravelry pattern page:

    ABOUT OUR DAMAS TOP MAL

This is the perfect opportunity to have a little bit of the vert knit test group experience, with a much more laid back pace and without any group size constraints.

To join, you must own the pattern and have your hooks, needles and yarn ready!
You'll also need some crochet and knitting experience - please check Ravelry for my recommendation.

Our MAL will run from June 10th until September 10th 2026!

While there's absolutely no obligation to be finished by then, there will be some perks for those who finish within the deadine - besides obviously having a new top ready before the summer is over ;)!

Unlike my tests and by popular request, this MAL will run entirely on Instagram, so you'll also need an IG account. We'll have a dedicated group chat and hashtag (#damastopmakealong).

As designer and host, I'll participate actively in the group chat, answering any questions that might pop up, and I'll share your progress stories, posts and reels on my stories. To make sure we don't miss your posts, make sure to tag me, and to share them in our chat!

At the end of the MAL, I'll select my favorite MAL posts and reels from makers who've sucessfully finished their tops and I'll put them up for a poll on my profile! The most voted contenders will receive prizes to be disclosed during the MAL.

Please mind the information and content you share within the group chat, and treat it as the public space that it is. Only reshare content that has been either made public within Instagram or for which you have gotten the autors permission, and always include a mention! If you have a private profile and/or don't wish your pictures to be shared by other participants, I recommend always adding a note when sharing, to avoid misunderstandings. I assume no liability for shared content.

Everyone is welcome to join our group, no matter where you come from, how you look like, or how you indentify yourself as a person and a maker! Harmful behavior towards others has no space in our group. Please don't hesitate to aproach me privately if you feel harmed!

I can't wait to start hosting this MAL and to meet everyone!
