Subject: Support HB 4007 and HB 4283
Dear Legislator,
I am writing to urge you to support HB 4007 and HB 4283 and to bring these bills for a vote this legislative session.
The Upper Peninsula depends on the RICE generators that were installed by UMERC and the Marquette Board of Light & Power in 2019 to provide reliable and affordable electricity. These facilities replaced coal generation, significantly reduced emissions, and were expected to serve our region for decades. Current state energy policies could force their premature retirement, leading to higher energy costs and reliability concerns for U.P. residents, businesses, schools, hospitals, and major employers.
The Upper Peninsula should not be penalized for investing early in cleaner energy solutions. HB 4007 and HB 4283 provide a practical path forward that protects affordability, reliability, and economic competitiveness while allowing for a responsible energy transition.
Please support HB 4007 and HB 4283, ensure that both the UMERC RICE generators and the Marquette Board of Light & Power are included in the final legislation, and work to advance these bills as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your consideration.
