• US HUPO Scientist Exchange Program

  • In our ongoing commitment to foster academic growth and collaboration among our members, we are pleased to launch the US HUPO Scientist Exchange Program. This award is intended to support an academic seeking on-site mentorship at an independent lab for the purpose of enhancing his/her research and career development by establishing a new collaborative effort. Selected scholars will receive up to $5,000. Award presentations for Scholars and Mentors will take place at US HUPO 2027.

     

    Details and criteria

    Scholar

    • Candidate scholar must be currently enrolled in a master’s, doctoral, or medical degree program, or be a post-doctoral fellow or faculty at an academic/non-profit institution within the United States.
    • Candidate must be a member of US HUPO.
    • A progress report can be presented by the end of year-2 at either a US HUPO conference or at a (virtual) Program Committee meeting.

     

    Mentor and Host Lab

    • The host lab must belong to an academic institution located in the United States.
    • Mentor may be the Principal Investigator of or a designated researcher in the host lab.
    • Either the PI or Mentor must be a member of US HUPO.
    • Mentor will have the opportunity to present at the Scientist Exchange Committee workshop.

  • Application Materials

    Please collate all materials into one single PDF prior to uploading. The PDF should include the following documents:

    1) Project Summary (1 page)

    2) CV

    3) Research statement (1 page) that includes:

    • How establishment of the new collaboration will enhance both the research and the scholar’s career development
    • A Brief description of how funds will be used (1 paragraph)
    • Travel, accommodations, research supplies/consumables

    5) Letter of support from the scholar’s home PI

    • Must include onfirmation that the home PI agrees to assume financial responsibility for any costs incurred in excess of the awarded funds

    6) Letter of support from the host lab’s PI to include:

    • A brief statement of justification of the designated mentor (self or appointed)
    • Confirmation that they are willing to host the student for the indicated time.
    • Confirmation that access to required instrumentation and/or computational resources will be made available to the scholar at no cost
