  • Inclusive Learning in Real Life: Everyday Strategies to Support Young Children with Diverse Needs

    Date: March 19, 2027

Time: Training is from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM (EST)

    Location: Webinar

Presenter: Dr. Jessica Grimone-Hopkins, Dr. Christina Mirtes, and Dr. Amy Allen

Description: Young children learn best through meaningful, real-life experiences embedded within their everyday routines. While this approach is widely recognized as a best practice in early childhood and early childhood special education, it is not always consistently supported across home, school, and systems-level decision-making.

This session explores how everyday moments such as getting dressed, mealtimes, transitions, play, and classroom routines can be intentionally used to support the development of young children, including those with disabilities, in practical and engaging ways. Rather than relying on isolated or artificial tasks, participants will examine how real-life experiences promote communication, independence, social-emotional growth, and functional skill development.

Designed for families, educators, related service providers, administrators, and policymakers, this session emphasizes the importance of shared understanding and alignment across roles. Participants will consider not only how to implement these practices, but also how systems, policies, and program expectations can either support or limit their use.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies, real-life examples, and a broader understanding of how to create environments at home, in classrooms, and at the systems level that prioritize meaningful, inclusive learning experiences for all children.
