  • Parent/Cast member 18+ Information

  • I realize that if myself (over 18) or my child is chosen for the cast, I will be responsible to make sure he/she attends every rehearsal and performance for which he/she is scheduled. Any added rehearsal or show conflicts could lead to student being removed from songs/scenes or from the show itself.

In case of illness, I will notify SOPA leadership in advance (info@shineonperformingarts.org or 512-800-1906). In order to ensure the quality of rehearsals and the production, I understand that unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the show. I understand that students who audition are NOT eligible for a tuition refund. I agree that my child will not attend if ill or within 24 hours of having a fever.

I understand that I will be charged a Registration Fee AND a Production Fee for each student who is cast in a production. I am also responsible for personal items (i.e., undergarments, shoes, tights, make-up, hair products, etc). I understand that I will be asked to attend parent meetings and to volunteer as part of a parent team.

I understand that I must take a background check if I am participating in certain committees (Backstage, Sets, Costuming, Hair, Makeup, etc). All students, staff and vounteers aged 18+ must consent to a background check in order to participate with or volunteer on teams that involve underage students.

  • Rehearsal Conflicts

    Please list all conflicts below
  • It is essential that students attend all rehearsals! Having conflicts that are not disclosed in this form, may be grounds for dismissal from the show.

REHEARSALS will be very intensive and few. It is extremely advantageous to already know the materials before auditions and callbacks. Rehearsals are listed in the Rehearsal Schedule Below. There will be MANDATORY rehearsals where ALL students are called starting August.

We will work around conflicts when we are able, so please list any possible conflicts.
Rehearsals will be held at the SOPAC.

Sunday afternoon rehearsals may be called for specific students, mostly students with conflicts, or leads, as needed, students will be notified if extra rehearsals are required. Rehearsals would be on Sunday afternoon/evenings.

Cast will receive a detailed rehearsal calendar shortly after casting. Please list all possibly conflicts in audition form.

Students must attend all rehearsals they are called for unless sick, or they have a listed conflict. Not attending rehearsals that you do not have a listed conflicts form could result in dismissal from scenes or the show. We will not accept conflicts after the show has been cast.

Since Community productions are not part of our educational program, you must be prepared to at all times as a performer. You must learn all materials in a timely manner and get "off book" as fast as possible.

Those cast will pay a mandatory $75.00 Fee upon casting or give an equal monetary donation no later than July 15th, 2026. There will be no additional fees, however we ask that cast assists with ticket sales, volunteer hours, etc for this show to ensure it is a success.

  • SOPA Audition Details - SUMMER 2026

  • AUDITION DETAILS

Please fill out the SUMMER 2026 AUDITION FORM no later than 7/1/2026

For this production, we are asking that you prepare a verse and chorus (no more than 90 seconds) of a song of your choice from the show. This song should be for the character you most see yourself as. You get to choose the song, the cut and the character you portray. We also ask that you have a back up song available with your back up character choice in case the Artistic Team would like to see more. If you are auditioning for ensemble please choose a song from a similar type of show.

Submit a headshot - This can be a nice cell phone photo of you
Submit a resume - If you have a resume, we ask that you submit it on the audition form.

Submit your songs - For this show we ask that you edit and upload your own mp3 song selections that you choose to audition with. YOU MUST SELECT SONG CUTS FROM THE SHOW YOU ARE AUDITIONING FOR. Remember: Song Option #1 is your first character/song choice and Song Option #1 is your second character/song choice. Please select a cut from the ensemble or Fates if you do not have a certain character you are going for. NOTE: Longer audition songs are not always better. Be smart and concise and NAIL it!

Know the show - We will not spend time teaching songs at callbacks.

FOR AUDITIONS: Please wear an outfit that shows you are taking this audition seriously. No pajamas, oversized clothing, hoodies, torn jeans, etc. The Artistic Team does notice. Please do not cosplay or Disneybound style your audition. No giving obvious nods to the character you want to get. This is not professional.

FOR CALLBACKS: Please wear dance clothing (leotards, leggings, sweats, close fitting shirts, etc), dance shoes - bring jazz shoes. Have your hair pulled back out of your face (Male and Female).

It is essential that you learn to audition the correct way. We will take extra care in ensuring that participants are taught how to choose material, dress, slate and present an audition.

PLEASE SEE THE AUDITION PAGES FOR THE MOST RELEVANT AND UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREPARE:

    1. Choose a SONG to perform.
Please choose a verse and a chorus (approx 1 min in total length, no more than 90 seconds) that showcases your voice and personality. The song should have a backing track. Please NO A CAPELLA (no music) and no tracks with lead vocals. We want to hear YOU shine! If you have questions or need assitance, please email info@shineonperformingarts.org. Many backing tracks can be found on youtube under "karaoke" or "instrumental accomaniment". Be smart with your choices!

    2. Learn to SLATE!
"Hello, my name is______. I am _____ years old and I will be singing,_____________ from the musical,__________________ and my top 3 roles are...

    3. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
When practicing, always take a big, deep, grounding breath before you begin. If you forget, don't fret! Just keep going! Be bold! At the end of your audition, be sure to say, "thank you"

    4. Wear comfortable, but nice clothing. You want to present your best self for an audition. Pajama or sweat pants, hoodies, very short skirts, camisoles, etc are not a great choice. Be sure to bring your dance shoes and wear clothing you can dance freely in.

  • What to Expect from Auditions:

Please see the AUDITION pages on the website for the most accuracte and up to date information.

The artistic team will watch the auditions, and make the casting decisions. No parents are involved in casting decisions (including parents who are on staff). If the Artistic Team personally instructs students or has personal relationships with the students, they will not weigh in on casting until all other Artistic Team members have spoken about the student first.

SOPA's policy is that we do not give refunds after a student auditions – our primary goal at SOPA Austin is to develop skills in all aspects of theater arts.

SOPA audition philosophy: "There is a role for every ONE! You just have to find your place to SHINE!”.

    Callbacks:
During callbacks, students may be asked to read for the directors, and may sing songs from the show.

This show has a very small cast. There are only 15 roles in total. Please know that the Artistic Team weighs every decision fully before making their casting choices. They pray over the entire process and make their decisions based on where they find peace and for the greater picture for the show.

Parents, please help your student process the casting decisions – every student experiences joys and disappointments in theater. This is an opportunity to grow!
There is so much that goes in to casting a show. The artistic team takes many things into account. Thank you for trusting us in this process.
