    SCAR OSC 2026 SYNCHRONY Workshop
  • Towards a synchronized circumpolar Southern Ocean observing system – SYNCHRONY workshop in the context of Antarctica InSync and the IPY5

  • Saturday 15th of August

    13:15 – 18:00

    CLARION Hotel, Hyde Park A

  • This workshop will take place in the framework of the SCAR Open Science Conference and is open to all participants interested in SYNCHRONY, the new EU-funded project aiming to advance coordinated Antarctic and Southern Ocean observing systems.

The workshop brings together the Antarctic and Southern Ocean community to shape the next decade of coordinated observations. Building on key outcomes from SCAR OSC 2026, we will identify shared priorities, strengthen collaboration, and co-develop a roadmap towards an integrated Antarctic and Southern Ocean Observing System in the context of Antarctica InSync, SOOS, SCAR, and IPY-5.

It will feature community keynote presentations and panel discussions on observing system optimization and advancement, improved access to the observing system and polar data, as well as harvesting of observing system outputs for science, society and decision making. These discussions include the benefits of emerging technologies, training, and capacity building in reaching a sustainable and efficient system-of-system. The event will provide ample opportunity for networking across the community.

Together, we aim to define priorities and strengthen partnerships to support sustained Antarctic and Southern Ocean observations toward IPY-5 and beyond.

Please Note: If you are only planning on attending the SYNCHRONY Workshop on Sat 15, you would not have to pay the conference registration fee.
