  • About the programme and approach

  • What is ACT?

The Belonging Reset is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a practical and compassionate approach to wellbeing.

Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts or emotions, ACT helps us develop a healthier relationship with them. It teaches us how to make space for our experiences, reconnect with what matters most, and take meaningful steps forward, even when life feels challenging.

How is ACT different from CBT?

While CBT often focuses on challenging and changing thoughts, ACT focuses on changing our relationship with them.

Instead of asking, "Is this thought true?", ACT asks, "Is this thought helping me live the life I want to live?"

This can feel gentler and more empowering, particularly for people experiencing stress, burnout, identity loss or overwhelm.

    A Trauma-Informed Approach

At The Belonging Dojo, we understand that many people have experienced difficult life events, workplace challenges, discrimination, burnout or periods of simply surviving.

ACT is a trauma-informed approach because it encourages self-compassion, choice and psychological safety. It does not ask you to relive your experiences. Instead, it helps you build awareness, resilience and a stronger connection with yourself in the present moment.

    The Belonging Dojo Philosophy

Our work combines ACT with the principles of belonging, mindfulness, Eastern wisdom and Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold.

Kintsugi teaches us that our struggles do not make us broken. They are part of our story.

The Belonging Reset is designed to help you reconnect with your strengths, rediscover what matters to you, and remember that even after difficult experiences, there is still gold within the cracks.
