• ACHSM Fellowship 2027 Candidature Application

  • This application enables candidates to self-assess eligibility for Fellowship. All sections must be completed and evidence provided where required. Further details of the preparation required and examination is available here

    · Sat 11 Sep 2027: Australian and New Zealand candidates online oral examination

    Examination and Assessment

    There are 2 assessment items: 

    1. Choice of 10-minute live presentation or 1000-word paper (Both formats are equivalent in standard) (mid – candidature May) (20%)

    2. Final Viva Voce examination (end of candidature) (80%) 

    Fellowship Program Payment: Once your application has been approved, an invoice will be sent to you for payment.

  • OVERALL REQUIREMENTS

    • Total Points Required: 25

    • Minimum Requirement: Score of ≥ 8 in Section 1 (Leadership Experience) and ≥ 6 in Section 2 (Impact & Outcomes)

    • Eligibility: Associate Fellow (financial) and is a Certified Health Manager (CHM)

  • Section 1: Leadership Experience

  • Provide details of leadership roles including organisation, role, duration and scope.


    Scoring Guide

    • 1 point per year of leadership experience

    • Bonus Points:

    + 1 Head of clinical unit, discrete department (e.g. safety and quality, clinical support unit, includes academic units), project lead, major branch (e.g., workforce, policy and planning, ABF)

    +2 Executive or system-level leadership

    +2 Multi-site, complex or cross-sector leadership

  • Submit a ½ to 1 page succinct Impact Statement, relating to your health leadership and management experience covering:

     a. A problem addressed (e.g. safety, human, financial, workforce, integration etc).

    b. Actions taken (e.g. led implementation of protocol, project, reduction errors, reduction employee turnover etc).

    c. Leadership and change management skills used (e.g. communication forums, negotiation, change management
        approaches, implementation frameworks applied, governance structures, project management, stakeholder
        and/or consumer engagement)

    d. Outcomes achieved (e.g. Improved performance metrics (e.g. wait times, throughput, financial, consumer or
         staff experience)

    e. Evidence of impact (e.g. Improved access to health services, equity, value, accessibility or sustainability)

     

    Scoring Guide

    Points to be allocated for each problem addressed based on impacts delivered

    0–4: Activity but impact not measured (e.g. introduction of policy/guideline, project, safety and quality improvement initiative, new model of care, technology, workforce practice implemented but not evaluated or measured)

    5–7: Measurable outcomes with demonstrable leadership (e.g. increased staff satisfaction, consumer engagement and experience improvements, reduction in waiting times, financial performance, resolution of safety issues)

    8–10: System-level impact with strong leadership and change management (e.g. improvements in access to health services, equity, value, accessibility or sustainability)

  • Include board leadership, committee memberships, advisory roles and briefs, advocacy and policy roles.

    Scoring Guide

    • 1 point per year

    • Bonus: +1 Board or Committee Chair/Deputy Chair

    +1 Influence - system/policy/advocacy that influenced for example a policy change/new model of care/adoption of new ways of working or technology introduction

  • Scoring Guide

    Mentoring: 2 points per ACHSM mentee or formal mentoring of a health manager / leader for at least 1 year

    Research/Publications/Conference presentation relevant to health service leadership/management: 2 per paper/presentation/2 per research project.

    Professional Service (e.g. ACHSM Branch Chairperson or Board Member, Deliver webinar for ACHSM, Development of educational or other materials, Conference organising committee or support, Other Contribution): 2 points per activity.
