  • Taite Heller is a student at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she is pursuing a degree in Health and Exercise Science while also minoring in Biology and Psychology. She has earned a 3.97 GPA and is expected to graduate in 2027. As a student on the Pre-Physician Assistant track, she is preparing for a future in healthcare and plans to attend PA school after completing her undergraduate studies. Through her academic achievements, athletic involvement, and commitment to service, she has built a strong foundation for a career focused on helping others.

    Academic Excellence and Athletic Achievement

Alongside her academic pursuits, Taite is a Division I student-athlete on the Wake Forest University Dance Team. Balancing a demanding academic schedule with the responsibilities of collegiate athletics has strengthened her discipline, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple commitments. Her dedication to the team was recognized during the 2025-2026 season when she received the MVP Award for her performance and commitment.

As a member of the dance team for three years, Heller trains and performs for more than 15 hours every week while maintaining a full course load. Her role includes participating in athletic events, engaging with fans, and helping create an energetic game-day atmosphere. She also contributes to junior spirit programs, where she mentors young dancers and encourages their growth and development. Beyond athletic events, she represents the university, athletic department, and dance team at alumni and donor gatherings.

Each year, she competes at the Universal Dance Association National Championship in the highly competitive Division IA category. The championship is recognized as one of the leading collegiate dance competitions in the country. During the 2025-2026 season, her team earned the DIA Gameday Live national championship, marking the program's first national title.

    Leadership and Student Advocacy

Leadership has become a meaningful aspect of her college experience. Taite serves as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, an organization that connects student-athletes with the athletic department. The committee provides a platform for communication, leadership development, and collaboration among athletes from different sports.

Through this role, Heller helps represent student-athlete perspectives, supports university initiatives, and encourages involvement in campus and community activities. In 2025, she was selected as the student-athlete voice at the Faculty Advisory Committee meeting for Wake Forest Athletics. This achievement was particularly significant because it marked the first time a member of the Spirit Program had been chosen for the responsibility.

Taite was also selected to represent Wake Forest Athletics at an event hosted through the Leadership & Character Development Program. During the event, she discussed topics such as team culture, values, identity, positivity, and mindset. The experience provided an opportunity to contribute to conversations focused on leadership and personal growth.

    Research and Clinical Experience

Her passion for healthcare has led her to pursue research and clinical opportunities that complement her academic studies. As a Research Assistant for IGROOVE-POWER, Taite worked alongside graduate students in a geriatric movement laboratory. Her responsibilities included collecting and organizing muscle power measurements at the knee and ankle joints using standardized testing procedures.

During the Spring 2026 semester, Heller served as a clinical research intern for The Osteoarthritis Prevention Study at Wake Forest University. This large multi-site clinical trial examines whether diet, exercise, and weight-loss maintenance can help prevent knee osteoarthritis in women at risk of developing the condition. Her participation provided valuable exposure to clinical research and evidence-based healthcare practices.

    Education and Community Service

In 2024, Taite served as a virtual tutor through Wake Forest University. She conducted weekly one-on-one sessions with a sixth-grade student in Forsyth County, creating personalized lesson plans and interactive learning activities. Through consistent communication and individualized support, she helped encourage academic growth and build confidence in a virtual learning environment.

Heller also participates in Victory Day, an annual event hosted by Wake Forest Football in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem. The event provides individuals with Down syndrome the opportunity to participate in football drills and enjoy a complete game-day experience.

During the Spring 2026 semester, she launched “Dancing With the Deacs,” a dance program created in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem. Through this initiative, she teaches dance classes for children and adults with Down syndrome. The program focuses on movement, confidence, self-expression, and exploration through dance while encouraging a positive connection between mind and body.

Taite also volunteers as a dance instructor at GiGi’s Playhouse. In this role, she works with children and adults, supporting educational, therapeutic, and developmental programs serving individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

    Future Aspirations

As she continues preparing for a career in healthcare, Taite Heller has been selected to serve as a Teaching Assistant for Human Gross Anatomy. In this position, she will assist faculty members in preparing and dissecting human cadavers, help lead weekly laboratory sessions, and mentor fellow students. She is also working toward obtaining her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification while seeking opportunities to gain direct patient care experience.

Through her achievements in academics, athletics, leadership, research, and community involvement, she continues to develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to make a meaningful impact in healthcare and provide compassionate care to future patients.
