    Summer 2026
  • *This form is due by Friday, August 21, 2026*

All summer 2026 UROP awardees are required to submit a 250 word abstract summarizing your research. Student abstracts are compiled into a booklet that accompanies your required poster presentation at the UROP Symposium.

The UROP Symposium is on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 10AM -2PM in the GSU Metcalf Ballroom The abstract booklet will be available digitally via OpenBU, under Kerberos protection. Abstracts are only accessible by login to the BU community, however, this precaution cannot guarantee that abstracts will not be viewed by those outside of the BU community.

Please note: at the end of this form you will be required to attach a completed and signed copy of the Mentor Abstract Approval Form. Be sure to give your mentor ample time to review your abstract, and complete the approval form before the deadline.

  • Abstract Submission Tips

  • All summer 2026 UROP awardees are required to submit an abstract as a condition of your funding - an agreement made in your summer award paperwork. Abstracts will be complied into a booklet during the fall semester, and will be published on OpenBU.

You should work closely with your research mentor to write your abstract, and you can find UROP's tips and tricks for abstract writing on our website here.

Additionally, we suggest that you review last year's symposium booklet to see examples of abstracts from other students. To access the 2025 abstract booklet with your BU login credentials, click here.

    Generally, your abstract should:

    1. Include a short description of what you did and learned,
    2. Include only numbers and characters that are most important,
    3. Include relevant information about possible or required next steps,
    4. Include why your work is important,
    5. Be interesting and informative,
    6. Be written for a broad audience (i.e. explain key concepts briefly and spell out abbreviations on first use).

NOTE - Abstracts are limited to 250 words.

Please reach out to the UROP office at urop@bu.edu ASAP to confirm your Symposium absence.

  • Presentation Time

Based on a first-come, first-served basis you may let us know your presentation time preferences. You must choose at least two (2) different preference options.
