  • At Black Walnut, we believe that small actions can make a big difference. That's why we're proud to support the BC Cancer Foundation through our Dog Walks, With Purpose program, with a portion of the proceeds from every walk going toward cancer research, treatment, and patient care in British Columbia.

    For those who knew her, and for those who may not, this fundraiser is dedicated to the memory of our beloved founder, Susie. After a short but courageous battle with cancer, she left behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and a deep love for animals that continues to shape Black Walnut today.

    This fundraiser is also dedicated to everyone whose lives have been changed by cancer, to those currently facing a diagnosis, those in treatment, survivors, caregivers, families, friends, and those we have lost. Cancer affects all of us in some way, and together we stand in support of one another.

    Dogs support us in countless ways. From service and therapy dogs helping those in need to the companionship of our own pets, they remind us of the importance of connection, comfort, and community. By walking together, we're supporting not only the health and happiness of our dogs, but also a cause that impacts families and communities across our province.

  • Meet your dog walker

    Meet James from Northwest Dog Training Academy. He believes, like we do at Black Walnut, that every walk should have a purpose. More than just exercise, his walks are designed to provide dogs with physical activity, mental stimulation, environmental enrichment, and positive experiences that support their overall well-being. Whether your dog enjoys exploring new trails, building confidence in new environments, practicing good leash manners, or simply getting outside for fresh air and adventure, each walk is tailored to their individual needs. With a strong understanding of canine behaviour and handling, James focuses on creating safe, structured, and rewarding experiences for every dog in his care. His calm and patient approach helps dogs feel comfortable, engaged, and confident while giving owners peace of mind that their pets are receiving attentive, professional care. At Black Walnut, we believe a walk should be more than a routine. It should be an opportunity for dogs to learn, explore, exercise, and enjoy the world around them. Because every walk should be a walk with purpose. Each walk is $22 plus tax, with some of the proceeds going to the BC Cancer Society.

  • Consent I authorize Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club and Northwest Dog Training Academy to provide dog walking services for my dog(s) through the Dog Walks With Purpose program. I confirm that my dog is in good health, physically able to participate in walks and outdoor activities, and is current on all required vaccinations. Assumption of Risk I understand that Dog Walks With Purpose may take place in wooded areas, fields, trails, and other natural outdoor environments. I acknowledge that participation in these activities involves inherent risks, including but not limited to uneven terrain, changing weather conditions, wildlife encounters, exposure to plants and insects, interactions with other animals or people, and other unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club and Northwest Dog Training Academy. I acknowledge that, despite reasonable precautions being taken, dogs may slip out of or escape from collars, harnesses, leashes, or other walking equipment. I understand that Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club and Northwest Dog Training Academy cannot guarantee that a dog will not escape and shall not be held liable for incidents resulting from a dog escaping from properly fitted equipment, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my dog's participation in these activities. Release of Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release and hold harmless Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club, Northwest Dog Training Academy, their owners, employees, contractors, volunteers, and representatives from any claims, damages, injuries, losses, costs, or expenses arising from or related to my dog's participation in the Dog Walks With Purpose program, except where caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct. Emergency Care In the event of an emergency, I authorize Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club and/or Northwest Dog Training Academy to seek veterinary care for my dog if I cannot be reached. I understand that all veterinary expenses incurred on behalf of my dog are my responsibility. If I cannot be reached, I authorize emergency veterinary treatment up to a maximum of $500. Any treatment expected to exceed this amount will require my authorization whenever reasonably possible. Black Walnut Kennel & Country Club and Northwest Dog Training Academy are not authorized to approve veterinary treatment exceeding $500 without my consent and shall not be held liable for any delays, complications, or outcomes resulting from the inability to obtain such consent.
