WAIPU BIKE HIRE
Terms and Conditions of Hire
Waipu, Northland, New Zealand | Effective from 01 June 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern the hire of bicycles and related equipment from Waipu Bike Hire ("we", "us", "our"). By booking a hire or accepting delivery of equipment, you ("the hirer") agree to be bound by these terms.
BOOKINGS & PAYMENT
1. Bookings
All hires are subject to availability. A booking is confirmed once you receive confirmation from us by phone or message.
2. Payment
Payment is due at the time of delivery unless otherwise agreed. We accept cash and bank transfer. Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of GST where applicable.
3. Cancellations
We understand plans change. Cancellations made more than 24 hours before the hire start time will receive a full refund. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be charged a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the hire value.
DELIVERY & COLLECTION
4. Delivery area
We deliver and collect within our standard service area covering Waipu township, Waipu Cove, and Langs Beach. Delivery outside this area may be available by arrangement and may incur an additional charge.
5. Delivery times
We will agree a delivery time with you at the time of booking. Please ensure someone is available to receive the equipment at the agreed time.
6. Late returns
Equipment must be returned at the agreed time and location. Late returns will be charged at the applicable daily rate, pro rata. If you need more time, please contact us as early as possible.
EQUIPMENT & CONDITION
7. Condition at delivery
All bicycles and helmets are inspected and serviced before hire. You will be asked to sign a condition checklist at delivery confirming the equipment is in good working order. If you notice any issue, please raise it before signing.
8. Care of equipment
You must take reasonable care of the hired equipment during the hire period. Bicycles are intended for use on sealed roads and gravel paths only. They must not be used for off-road riding, jumps, stunts, or in any way that causes unreasonable wear or damage.
9. Loss or damage
You are responsible for any loss of or damage to the equipment during the hire period, beyond fair wear and tear. Damage costs will be assessed at market repair or replacement value and are payable on return of the equipment or on demand.
10. Breakdown
In the event of a mechanical failure due to fair wear and tear, please contact us immediately. Do not attempt major repairs without prior approval. We will do our best to resolve the issue promptly, including replacement where possible.
SAFETY & RIDER RESPONSIBILITIES
11. Helmets
A helmet is provided with every bicycle. Under New Zealand law (Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004), helmets must be worn by all riders at all times. You accept responsibility for ensuring every rider in your group wears a helmet while riding.
12. Rider fitness
You confirm that all riders are physically fit and capable of riding a bicycle safely. We accept no responsibility for any injury arising from a rider's inability to safely operate the equipment.
13. Road rules
All riders must comply with New Zealand road rules at all times. Bicycles must not be ridden under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
14. Children
Children under 14 must ride under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times. Any rider under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the hire agreement on their behalf.
15. Riding area
The Waipu to Langs Beach trail is a shared path — please ride considerately and give way to pedestrians. We recommend riders familiarise themselves with the trail before setting off.
LIABILITY
16. Limitation of liability
Waipu Bike Hire accepts no liability for any personal injury, loss, or damage sustained during the hire period. You ride entirely at your own risk. We strongly recommend you ensure you have appropriate personal insurance cover.
17. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Waipu Bike Hire from any claim, loss, or expense arising from your use of the hired equipment or any breach of these terms.
18. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure to deliver or collect equipment due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to extreme weather, road closures, or mechanical failure of our delivery vehicle.
GENERAL
19. Age of hirer
The hirer must be 18 years of age or older. By accepting these terms you confirm you meet this requirement.
20. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
21. Changes to terms
We reserve the right to update these terms from time to time. The terms in force at the time of your booking will apply to your hire.
