Irrigation Technician Position Description
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation infrastructure in orchards and other perennial crops. This role focuses on drip irrigation systems, including the filter station, belowground main and sub-mains, valve boxes, and drip line.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary substantially by season, but will primarily include:
- Establish trees, prairie, cover crops
- Pesticide applications
- Maintain plant fertility
- Field monitoring
- Harvest fruit & nuts
- Field work with tractor and heavy machinery
- Propagate planting stock
- Pack and ship nursery orders
- Maintain and repair equipment
- Manage inventory
- Receive and manage tree shipments
- Collect biometrics data from trees
- Survey and layout new plantings
- Clean and organize shop/offices
- Maintain comprehensive field logs
- Prune plants
- Harvest, maintain, and store bare root tree stock
- Irrigate and fertigate nursery stock
Requirements:
- Obtain required pesticide licensing and perform pesticide applications as needed in accordance with safety and regulatory standards
- Must be willing and able to travel during peak season as needed
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work outside, long hours, in challenging conditions
- Commitment to participating in an open and collaborative environment
- Willingness to work independently with strong self-direction
- Strong communication skills
- High school degree, or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
Ideal candidates will have:
- Familiarity with perennial agriculture or habitat restoration
- Experience in farming, landscaping, forestry, or other field-based jobs
- Mechanical or carpentry skills
- Preference for candidates willing to grow with the company

- Compensation: $20-$25/hour, commensurate with education and experience. Subject to annual review for possible increase.
