What is the Sacred Land Alliance?
We are an intercultural volunteer organization based on Indigenous land in Flagstaff, Arizona, committed to building reciprocal relationships with this land and community while working to address and repair the historical and ongoing harms of colonization. Read more about us at sacredlandallorg.
What is an accompanist?
Accompaniment is an important component of our work. Accompanists are individuals or groups who walk alongside and support people, communities, and land directly impacted by systems of domination. The role is rooted in solidarity and emphasizes horizontal, non-hierarchical relationships built on trust, empathy, and mutual learning.
What is the purpose of this training?
In this training, we will practice using deep listening to understand the perspectives of our Indigenous partners and follow their leadership. This training is designed to help us learn how to compost the discomfort that arises from unlearning internalized colonial mindsets. It will use self-reflection to support us moving from guilt and shame and into long-term commitments rooted in compassion and solidarity.
This work cannot be done alone. Our training is designed to prioritize relationships and build community. Our long-term goal is to build a team that works together in positive ways by addressing how colonial patterns crop up in our relationships and organizing.
What will happen after the training?
After the training is complete, Sacred Land Alliance will take some time to discern our next steps. You may be invited to join our Accompaniment Team. We recognize that this team may not be for everyone - and that’s ok!
