• Application Berlin Performance Art Award 2026

  •

    Introduction:
We are calling for participation in a performance art award, but what is performance art? We also can't or want to define it, but for this call, we are particularly interested in work that intersects visual and somatic approaches and operates in formats that can take place in a gallery context (NEW FEARS Gallery) with a relatively simple technical setup.
This is a DIY, nearly zero-budget project, and we are doing it unsalaried and out of passion in order to provide a platform for the wide range of the Berlin underground performance art scene, which often has no access to stages and institutions.

    Selection and Prize:
The first selection of the 6 shortlisted artists will be made by the jury members: Bryana Fritz, Jacopo Lanteri, and Burcu Bilgiç. The shortlisted artists will each present one work on 16–17.10.26 with a live audience. After the presentations, the 3 winners will be selected. Each winner will receive a grant of 1300 euros and a 10-day residency at NEW FEARS Gallery, with the possibility of presenting the residency outcome. The 3 artists who are not selected for the grant will receive half of the entrance money as compensation.

    Requirements:
You need to be available on the dates 16–17.10.26 and during the week before for setting up and presenting one performance work at NEW FEARS Gallery in Reichenbergerstr. 114, 10999 Berlin. Your work must be able to be presented in a gallery context with a relatively simple technical setup. You find the link to the floor plan on our website: www.newfears.net
You need to have a German tax number to issue an invoice for the prize money. You can present an already existing work or a new work, and the duration can vary. In case you are shortlisted, we will discuss together with our technical director the possibilities for realizing your work in the best way within our limited resources.
