NAA Workshop: Finding Color in Life with Acrylics with Jessica Murr

Saturday September 12th / 9:00am-12:00pm Upstairs in the Hartson Gallery
  • Saturday September 12th / 9:00am-12:00pm | Hartson Gallery (upstairs)

    Newburyport Art
    65 Water St
    Newburyport, MA 01950

In this workshop, students will begin their very own still life. Students will learn how to find real colors and shapes in their subject matter, mixing colors using the primaries + white, scaling the still life accurately onto the substrate, building elements to create a good base and ensuring a well rounded painting, and how to complete a well rounded and accurate still life without using photos.

Students will feel more confident in their ability to extract color from life. They can apply what we’ve learned to any subject matter- live model, landscape, architecture, etc.

Familiarity with using acrylic paint, knowledge of the color wheel- primary/complimentary colors, and a basic understanding of perspective is recommended, but it is not required. All skill levels are welcome.

The session will take place in the second-floor Hartson Gallery at 65 Water St, Newburyport, MA 01950. Please note that this workshop space is accessible only by stairs. If you anticipate this being a problem for you, please email us at education@newburyportart.org.

    Jessica Murr Bio

Jessica Murr is a painter and printmaker from Mount Olive, New Jersey. Jess has been creating and collaborating since an early age. She recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Savannah College of Art and Design. Post graduation, she continues her creative processes of extracting colors, passions, and sentiments from her fond memories and experiences in Northern Massachusetts. Jess’s motivations stem from the most important bonds and relations in her life, which are revealed in the imagery of her current work. Through passionate colors and comforting imagery, she hopes her audience can have the opportunity to encourage self reflection and rediscovery of the sisterlike bonds in one's own life.
