  • EMDR Basic Training - Participant Agreement

  • The undersigned participant acknowledges that they have thoroughly read, understand, and agree to the following terms and conditions for participating in the Inner Tides EMDR Basic Training.

  • SECTION 1: Purpose and Scope of Training

    • EMDR is an empirically supported treatment for PTSD and Acute Stress Disorder. Its use for other clinical applications continues to be evaluated. Cautions described in this training and in the published literature are often based on anecdotal reports from trained clinicians.
    • This training prepares participants to apply EMDR clinically and does NOT authorize participants to teach or train others in EMDR. Attempts to train others without proper EMDRIA approval constitute an ethical violation.
  • SECTION 2: Eligibility Requirements

    • Participants must either:
      • Hold a current independent practice license in a mental health field recognized by EMDRIA,OR
      • Have completed master’s-level coursework, be on a licensure track, AND be supervised by a licensed clinician who provides written endorsement
    • Participants must maintain an active psychotherapy caseload with clients suitable for EMDR. Those without appropriate clients must arrange alternatives such as pro bono work. This training is not intended for managers or researchers without clinical caseloads.
  • SECTION 3: Experiential Training & Personal Readiness

    • Participants acknowledge that the training includes experiential practice involving personally relevant material. This is for training purposes only and not therapy. Participants are responsible for assessing their readiness and seeking outside support if needed.
    • A significant component of this training involves experiential practicum. These sessions are NOT personal therapy. Participants will process real-life experiences to understand EMDR from a client perspective. Participants affirm having adequate affect regulation and self-soothing skills.
    • Disruptive behavior—including splitting or conflict-generating conduct—may result in dismissal from training without refund.
  • SECTION 4: Technology, LMS & Virtual Training Requirements

    • Learning Management System (LMS): Participants must use the LMS to access materials, assessments, and track progress.
    • Technology Requirements for Virtual Training:
      • Stable, high-speed internet

    • Cameras must remain ON throughout the entire synchronous training day, including lecture, consultation, and practicum.
    • Participants are responsible for ensuring confidentiality in their remote environment.

  • SECTION 5: Confidentiality & Ethical Expectations

    • Recording of any type (audio or video) is strictly prohibited.
    • Participants must maintain confidentiality regarding all personal and clinical information shared in training, practicum, and consultation. Breaches may result in immediate dismissal without refund.
    • Case material presented must be de-identified. Participants agree to obtain written client consent for the release of non-identifying information and avoid sharing names or identifying details.
  • SECTION 6: Required Reading & Assessments

    • Required texts (Participants must obtain these materials at their own expense):
      • Shapiro, F. (2018). EMDR Therapy: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures.

    • Cameras must remain ON for virtual training. Missing more than 15 minutes disqualifies participants from CE credits for that segment.
    • EMDRIA requires completion of all EMDR Basic Training components within 12 months from the start date. Exceptions may only be granted for humanitarian or extreme circumstances.
  • SECTION 8: Consultation Requirements

    • Participants must complete all required consultation hours and associated learning activities to be eligible for a certificate of completion.

  • SECTION 10: Tuition and Payment

    • Payment of tuition in full or enrollment in an approved payment plan is required to secure a participant’s place in the training. Access to training materials and live sessions is contingent upon maintaining current payment status.
    • Participants enrolled in a payment plan agree to complete all scheduled payments regardless of participation status. Failure to complete payments may result in removal from the training and withholding of certificates.
    • All payments are non-refundable except as outlined below. Training fees reflect reserved placement in a limited-capacity cohort and include instructional time, materials, and administrative costs.
    • Payment by check: 3463 State Street #219 Santa Barbara CA 93105
  • SECTION 11: Certificate of Completion

    • A Certificate of Completion will be issued upon successful completion of all required training days, assessments, reading, and demonstration of competency through practicum and consultation.

      • Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the start date are non-refundable but may be eligible for transfer to a future training, at the discretion of the training provider.
      • Failure to attend without notice results in forfeiture of all fees paid.
