A companion to our recent walking tour of the area, this online presentation will look at 400+ years of life in the neighborhood we call the Lower East Side, from the first Lenape residents to the sleek glass-and-steel skyscrapers that are remaking the area today. While we will look at the peak years of Jewish immigration ca. 1890-1910, this talk will focus more broadly, looking at the earlier suburban settlement -- multiple buildings in the area are 200 years old this year -- and taking a deep dive into how the area has rapidly gentrified in the last two decades.
PLEASE NOTE: A recording of the lecture will be available approximately 24 hours after the presentation. This video will be hosted on Vimeo and a separate email with a link to the recording will be sent to all registrants.
