Louisville Air Sensor Lending Library Application
  • Louisville Air Sensor Lending Library Application

Apply to borrow an air sensor for community-driven air quality monitoring in Louisville.
  • Purpose

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (APCD) is launching the Louisville Air Sensor Lending Library (LASLL) to make air quality monitoring accessible to our community. Through this program, K-12 schools, universities, nonprofit organizations, researchers, and individuals can borrow an air sensor for up to one year (or longer if applicable) to monitor air quality at their chosen location within Louisville.
    This program aims to:

    - Support community-driven air quality research and awareness.
    - Provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and community members.
    - Encourage data collection that helps us better understand Louisville’s air quality.
    - Promote clean air initiatives and awareness to communities for better education      and understanding of their environment.

  • A condition for participation in LASLL is that participants must agree to make sensor readings public. Air sensor data will be visible on PurpleAir map, Clarity OpenMap, or U.S. EPA AirNow Fire and Smoke map in real-time, and the location of the sensor on the map will be approximate.

For participants opting for PurpleAir sensors, and in locations without Wi-fi infrastructure, an SD card will be provided with the sensor to store the data. This data will be shared with APCD within thirty (30) days of the project’s conclusion (or every three months should the project last longer than three months).

APCD wants to learn from your research. We appreciate you sharing your conclusions and interpretations made during your project. Please e-mail APCD with any findings you choose to share at sensors@louisvilleky.gov. If you feel the information could also be supplemented by presentation otherwise, feel free to schedule a presentation within sixty (60) days of the study’s conclusion. If the results are included in a published report, we ask that you share these materials with APCD at least ten (10) business days prior to publication. All information submitted in connection with this application is subject to the Kentucky Open Records Act and may be released to the public upon request.
