Don’t turn Calgary into Footloose!
Calgary’s top tourism boss has sent an urgent warning to Mayor Jeromy Farkas and City Council: scrap the new Stampede music restrictions before they kill the vibe of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Weeknight concerts outside Stampede Park must now end at midnight with reduced noise and bass levels – all in the name of “public safety.” The tourism chief says this directly attacks Calgary’s festival culture and tourism economy.
Farkas calls it reasonable. Critics say: hire more police instead of regulating the fun.
Calgary’s Stampede is our biggest tourism draw and a beloved tradition. City Hall should NOT be cracking down on music and fun with earlier curfews and stricter noise rules.
