Open Mat Project (OMP) is a non-profit organization based in Seattle Washington whose mission is to foster connections and support queer people organizing and participating in martial arts. Over the last 5 years the members of OMP have hosted over 80 events, workshops, and tournaments, sharing our love of martial arts and self-defense with the LGBTQIA+ community. To further our mutual goals of expanding outreach, providing more resources, and spreading the joy of queer-centered martial arts spaces we came together to found OMP.

Use this form to request financial assistance for travel, registration fees, housing, training, or equipment that supports our mission of connecting Queer and Trans folks with the resources they need to participate in martial arts.

Applications are reviewed and funds are distributed quarterly. Please note that these funds are to be used for non-urgent costs and/or reimbursements of costs already incurred by applicants. Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis. Notification of acceptance/denial along with dispersal of funds may occur 2-3 months after application submission.

Important Note on Demographic Information: Open Mat Project is dedicated to supporting individuals who have been historically underserved in both the martial arts and LGBTQ+/BIPOC communities, prioritizing Black transfemmes first. To ensure our limited funding is distributed equitably to those who need it most, demographic information is required to complete this application.
