When: Entries displayed throught the Show. Items can be collected after 4pm on Friday of the show.

Where: Centre of Exhibition Hall - Indoor Trade & Handmade. A small prize giving to trophy winners will be at the end of the day on Friday in the Exhibition Hall. You will be notified if you are involved in this prize giving.

Fees: A small fee of $5 per entry.

Each competitor will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the HB A&P Show.

The Handmade Competition encourages anyone from the community to enter their hand crafted creations from the past year into our various competition classes. Judging of entries will take place prior to the Show and Prize Cards with 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings will be displayed with them at the Show. Prizes in the form of cash or gift voucher will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each class, along with Prize Cards. There will also be overall trophies awarded for various "best in show" winners

Registrations will be open online from 1st August 2026 and close on the 6th of October 2026.

If insufficient entries are received classed may be combined.

Entries must be delivered to the Exhibition Hall at the Tomoana Showgrounds (Gate 2, Kenilworth Road) between 10am-2pm on Monday the 12th of October. Outside of this time, by arrangement only. Late Entries will not be accepted. Judging will take place the week of the 12th of October.

Rules

2. Entry fee of $5.00 +GST per entry to be paid to the Hawke's Bay A&P Society prior to delivery of entries for judging
3. If for any reason the Hawke's Bay A&P Show must take a different form, judging will be reliant on photos provided in the entry form
4. Each item received for judging must have the entrant's name and class entered clearly attached
5. All entries must be hung on a suitable hanger that will last the duration of the Show. Entries that cannot be hung must be placed in an appropriate box, not in a bag
6. Entries can only be entered once. Garments must not have been entered into a previous DMM Showcase
7. The competition entry item must be modelled as the clear star of the ensemble i.e. the model must wear a plain black top (if bottom half garment is being showcased) or plain black leggings or similar (for top only garments)
8. A full ensemble can also be entered
9. The Judges reserve the right not to accept a garment for judging if they feel it is not up to a reasonable standard of workmanship, finish or cleanliness
10. Competitors must construct their garment independently and it may only be entered into one class
11. The garment must be entirely made by the competitor. No commercially made garments will be judged
12. All categories will be included dependent on numbers and at judge's discretion. The judges decision is final
13. Prizes may not be awarded if the judges do not feel entries are of a suitable standard in any class
14. If a competitor is unable to attend the Showcase, their garment may be modelled by someone else arranged by the competitor.
15. Each entry must submit the design process, techniques they used and a full brief showing how the design interprets the theme it represents.

 

Ages: All

When: 10am-4pm 22 & 23 October

Where: Community Performance Stage - Located in the Watties Food & Family Lawn

Fees: Free

Each entry will receive complimentary tickets for the performers to attend the HB A&P Show.

The Community Performance Stage is a fun, non-competitive opportunity for individuals, duos and groups of any age to show off their talents to the wider Hawke’s Bay Community. This could be anything from music bands/solos, dance groups, cultural groups, choir groups, poetry/storytelling, acting out a skit or anything in-between.

10-20 minute time slots will be available on both days of the Show. The stage dimensions are 5m x 5m. Speakers and a microphone will be available for your use, however performers are required to provide and manage any other special equipment needed.

Registrations will be open online from 1st August 2026.

3. This showcase is available for any member of the community to enter, including students

5. The Society reserves the right to decline any entry if they determine that it does not align with the outlined purpose of the Community Performance Stage. This is at the Hawke's Bay A&P Society's Staff's discretion

Prizes: Ribbons and Certificates will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings.

Each entrant will receive 2 complimentary tickets to attend the HB A&P Show with a parent/guardian.

Children have the fun opportunity to enter into our pet competition with their pet lamb or farm animal. Cash or voucher prizes will be awarded for all classes

About

The Export Lamb Competition aims to identify the best lamb producer in Hawke’s Bay. The competition has a two-part judging process; on the hoof and of the hook. Entrants receive a complimentary ticket to the Hawke's Bay A&P Show and along with staff are invited to attend the prizegiving which is also open to the public. AFFCO New Zealand and the Hawke's Bay A&P Society extend a warm welcome to all interested farmers to enter the Export Lamb Competition.

NEW SEASON LAMB (under 6 months of age) 16.0-22.9kg HCW, 4.15mm GR (Targets: 17-19kg HCW, 8-10mm GR)

Judging Criteria

The pen of three (3) is judged on a combination of:

One the Hoof - the live animals are judged on their condition, conformation, presentation and evenness at Tomoana Showground by an AFFCO Livestock Buyer.
On the Hook - the slaughtered animals are judged on GR measurement, weight and grade, carcass confirmation and evenness at the AFFCO Plant.

Prizes

For each class, the following prizes will be awarded

• Best pen of three on hoof, 1st place $100
• Best pen of three on hook, 1st place $100
• Champion combined hoof & hook, $150
• Overall Supreme Champion Carcass - awarded across both new and old season lambs, $300 Ideal weight 22kg HCW, 8mm GR, best Dress Out Yield.

Rules

1. Open to all lamb producers, irrespective of supply relationships and from any location.
2. Free entry. Must be entered by closing date.
3. A pen of three (3) lambs equals one entry.
4. All three (3) lambs must grade as per the requirements for each class to be eligible for the champion prizes.
5. All entries must be accompanied with the latest version of the AFFCO ASD form.
6. All lambs will be mouthed. Hogget’s will be if they have one or more incisor in wear.
7. Kill proceeds will be paid 14 days after kill, direct to competitors less normal kill charges on the AFFCO weekly schedule

About

The Best of the Bay Beef Competition aims to identify the best beef producer in Hawke's Bay. The Competition has a three-part judging process; on the hoof, on the hook and eating quality. Entrants receive a complimentary ticket to the Hawke's Bay A&P Show and along with staff are invited to attend the prizegiving which is also open to the public. AFFCO New Zealand and the Hawke's Bay A&P Society extend a warm welcome to all interested farmers to enter the Best of the Bay Beef Competition.

Prizegiving, HB A&P Show - 22nd of October 2026

Judging Criteria

1. On the Hoof – the live animal is judged at the AFFCO plant by an AFFCO Livestock Buyer. (25% of score)

2. On the Hook – the slaughtered animal is judged at its slaughter site using the AUS Meat Grading criteria. Qualifying Grades: P and T (50% of score)

3. Eating Quality – a prime cut of the top 10 slaughtered animals are cooked by a high profile chef at the Hawke’s Bay A&P Show and judged by a panel of three from the hospitality sector, beef processing industry and a consumer representative. (25% of score)

The Guardian Trust Cup is awarded to the Overall Supreme Winner that achieves the highest points with the following prize money given:

Rules

1. Open to all beef producers, irrespective of supply relationships, between Wairoa and Pahiatua.
2. Free entry. Must be entered by closing date - TBC 2026.
3. All entries will be purchased by AFFCO.
4. All entries must be accompanied with the latest version of the AFFCO ASD form, or EASD.
5. Heifers or steers must be within a weight range of 220 - 345 carcass weight to be eligible.
6. Kill proceeds will be paid 14 days after kill, direct to competitors less normal kill charges on the AFFCO weekly schedule.

When: Friday 23rd October, 9-11am (Hobby Horse making from 9-9.30am)

Prizes: Ribbons and Certificates will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings.

The Hobby Horse Competition encourages people of all ages to buy, borrow or make their own Hobby Horse and participate in this fun-for-all competition. This section is open to everyone and allows elements of creativity and athleticism combined with a love for horses. We welcome horse owners but also hope to attract competitors who do not have access to real horses or traditional equestrian activities. Competitors with the fastest time and best performance will be awarded with a ribbon to celebrate their participation and success. Join in and have a laugh.

Registrations will be open online from 1st August 2026.

Hobby Horse making from 9-9.30am - we will have some basic supplies for you to make your own Hobby Horse if you don't already have your own. Join the fun!

Classes:

Best Presented Hobby Horse

You don't need to stress about having the flashest hobby horse in town, if you're in a pinch you can even use a mop or broom, as long as you can stay on it.  Hobby Horse making session beforehand for those who haven't brought their own

 

Dressage Display - 10 years old and under

Dressage Display - 11 years old to 16 years old

Dressage Display - 17 years old and over

We welcome competitors to make up and perform a custom workout/ dressage test ideally including walk, trot and canter.This should be a maximum of 90 seconds.

 

Barrel Race - 10 years old and under

Barrel Race - 11 years old to 16 years old

Barrel Race - 17 years old and over

Will be like a traditional  barrel race where you will have a set course and the fastest time around will be announced as the winner.

 

Two Fence Challenge - 10 years old and under

Two Fence Challenge- 11 years old to 16 years old

Two Fence Challenge - 17 years old and over

Will be like a Showjumping two fence challenge where the first jumps remains small and the second jump gets higher each round.

Prizes: Prize cards will be awarded to entries placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and two special awards within each class.

Trophies: The overall winning school with the highest number of total points will be awarded with the Perress Family School Art Cup.

Each entry will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the HB A&P Show.

School classes are invited to submit their Creative and Digital artworks into the Schools Art Competition. Anything from paintings, collages, photographs, drawings, graphic designs and more are welcomed. Artworks will be displayed throughout the Show within the relevant entrant age group with Prize Cards displayed. You are very welcome to enter individually rather than through your school.

Registrations will be open online from 1st August 2026.

5. Each artwork received for judging must have the entrant's School, name, age group and class entered clearly attached to the front of the artwork and have velcro hooks attached in each corner.
6. Entries to be no larger than A3 sized paper (framing is welcome)
7. Any entries that do not hang on a wall, please note in the "Artwork Description" field above and place in an appropriate box with the entrant details clearly displayed, not in a bag. 
8. All entries must be delivered to the Exhibition Hall at Tomoana Showgrounds between 10am-4pm on Monday the12th of October. Outside of this time, by arrangement only. Late entries will not be accepted. Judging will take place the week of the 12th of October.
9. Entries can only be entered once. Items must not have been entered into a previous Schools Art Competition for the Hawke's Bay A&P Show.
10. If all artwork can be collected after 4pm on Friday at the show. Entries will not be returned by the Hawke's Bay A&P Society, items can be collected the following week of the show from Foodeast 4 Hanui Road, Tomoana, Hastings. Items not collected by the 31st of October will be disposed of.
11. If for any reason the Hawke's Bay A&P Show must take a different form, judging maybe be reliant on photos.

Ages: Year Levels 7-13                                                                                       

When: Thursday 22nd October Time TBC

Where: Showcase Hall Marquee

Fees: $5 Entry

The Design, Make & Model Showcase invites students to enter their wearable and handcrafted creations that they have thoughtfully designed and skillfully constructed throughout the year across a range of competition classes.

Garment construction will be judged prior to the Show, with the top 12 entrants in each category returning to model their creations during the catwalk event for final judging. Scores from both sections will be combined, and the entrant with the highest overall marks in each class will be awarded 1st place.

Come along, showcase your creativity, and strut your stuff on the runway while celebrating your unique fashion style.

Prizes: Sashes, certificates and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each class. There will also be overall trophies awarded for the best upcycled garment, and the best garment made with natural fibres and the special Jenny Connor Memorial Prize. The winning school overall will receive a special prize.

Each entry will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the HB A&P Show.

New this year - we ask schools to only enter 12 entries per category. After construction judging the top 12 from each category will come through to the catwalk judging. We will also invite the prize winners of the Handcraft to present their designs and receive their awards at the Catwalk event.

Classes:

Hand Craft Section - open to year levels 7-13 non-wearable items eg soft toy, wall hanging etc. Collaborative items are allowed but you must tick the box for 'collabrorative' at time of entry, so it can be judged accordingly

Hoodie Section - open to year levels 7-13

Junior Section - open to year levels 7-10. Any garment, it can be an outfit or a single piece.

Intermediate Section - open to year level 11. Any garment, it can be an outfit or a single piece

Senior Section - open to year levels 12 and 13. Any garment, it can be an outfit or a single piece

Young Designer - open to year levels 7-13 with an original design. The focus of this category is the originality of design and quality of construction. Students must show how they have shown originality in their entry. (Eg annotated photos showing evidence of innovative techniques or use of materials, major alterations to an existing pattern and/or developed a pattern from block or draping. The catwalk judging will focus on total look and appeal

Wearable Art Section - open to year levels 7-13. This section focuses on creative use of materials including recylcled and not on quality of construction. However, the entry must hold up to wearing and modelling on the catwalk.  Students must show a clear design story/mood/theme which they have documented with their entry. The catwalk modelling part of the judging will be based on impact of presentation on stage. Quality photos showing the full length and width back and front of the entry on the body must be with the outfit when it is delivered. No selfies please.

Overall Awards:

·       Best Upcycled Garment: An entry that uses at least 80% of pre-loved materials. To be eligible for this award students must include photos showing the materials/items used before the construction takes place. These MUST be taken and sent with the entry along with an explanation of why these materials/items were chosen and a description of how they have been used in the entry.

·       Best Garment made with Natural Fibres (With a Preference for Wool) - The entry must be made of at least 80% of any natural fibre, or combination of natural fibres. Commercial fabric, knitting, crochet, macrame or combination may be used. To be eligible for this award students must document what the fibre/s and why they were chosen for the entry (what makes the the fibre appropriate for the entry)

·       Overall Winning School - Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing will incur 3, 2 or 1 points respectively, to their School's Score. The School with the highest total score at the end of the Showcase will be the crowned the overall winner.

·       Jenny Connor Memorial Award - this award recognizes the outfit and the way the individual wears and presents the garment, highlighting confidence and style for the occasion.

Judging Criteria:

·       Complexity of skills used

·       Quality of construction skills and overall finish

·       Total look, appeal and Impact of presentation on stage

·       Originality and/or innovation in style, fabric and design (hoodie, Young Designer, Senior and Wearable Art) 

For Junior Intermediate and Senior Classes:

An additional two marks may be awarded for an entry that is an outfit or an accessory made by the student that coordinates with the entry. The standard of construction is important.
