Gilroy Rodeo – Hide Race Entry Information
The Gilroy Rodeo will offer three entry options for the Hide Race:
Event Schedule
- Friday, August 7, 2026 – 6:15 p.m.
Check-in by 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 8, 2026 – 5:15 p.m.
Check-in by 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 9, 2026 – 11:45 a.m.
Check-in by 10:30 a.m.
Location
Contestant Entrance for parking, 2365 Dunlap Avenue, Gilroy, CA 95020
One entry per team- Same team may not enter twice (different partner required for additional entries)
Awards
1st Place: Buckles + Prize Money Top Fastest time over the 3 days will determine winners. Additional placings may be awarded based on number of entries.
Entry Requirements
Paid entry form required (fees are non-refundable)
No late entries accepted
Must check in during designated times-- No late check-ins
Riders must be 16 years or older at time of entry
Same team may not enter twice (different partner required for additional entries)
Western attire required for all contestants
Rules of Competition
- Contestants must be ready at time of performance start time or you may be considered a turnout
- Horse/rider to be at the staging area of main arena gate, Hide rider to be ready at the adjacent end of the arena near barrel
- Hide set-up provided by Gilroy Rodeo (mandatory use)
- Flag/Judge starts time when horse crosses starting line
- Horse and rider must pick up hide rider at opposite end of arena
- Hide rider must be on the hide before passing the end barrel
- Rider must remain on hide until finish line or team will be disqualified
- 60-second time limit
- Rope must be dallied to horn (no tying off allowed)
- Contestants may hang on by any safe method
- All decisions are made at the judges discretion and are final.
