• Become a Community Weaver

    In Mt Wellington/Hamlin Park
  • Do you love connecting people, sparking ideas, and helping things happen in your community? You might just be who we’re looking for!

We’re looking for a Community "Weaver” who is based in the community surrounding Hamlin Park in Mount Wellington. A Community Weaver is a bit like that bubbly best mate who’s always encouraging you to join in, try something new, or meet someone interesting.

We are looking for someone who loves activating their local community, someone who is a go-getter and who is already deeply connected to Mount Wellington / Hamlin Park community. Your role will involve supporting residents who live, work or play around Hamlin Park to connect with each other and work with them to activate Hamlin Park as a hub of neighbourhood activity.

What that looks like depends on what the community wants – it could be meet-ups, open mic nights, skill shares, sports days, workshops, creative projects, small local events, or something completely new.

  • What is the project?

  • Community Think, Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board, Department of Internal Affairs, and Neighbours Aotearoa are working with a community-led approach called Participation Culture.

Participation Culture was developed and piloted in Aotearoa by Community Think over the past couple of years. It grew out of a desire to shift community development from plans and reports to relationships, local participation, and action. The project draws on the Participatory City model from the UK; however, it has been refined to reflect and embrace life in Aotearoa New Zealand and adds to the kete of community development in Aotearoa.

This is the first time a Participation Culture approach will take place in Tāmaki Makaurau.
