  • Gather your team and join us for a weekend of friendly competition on the waterfront. Your $350 entry includes your competition pork butts and one campsite with water, power & sewer. Spots are first come, first served. Teams may arrive Friday, Oct 2 (12–7 PM) and stay through 11 AM Sunday, Oct 4. Saturday's Pork Butt competition is sanctioned and judged by the South Carolina BBQ Association and counts toward state championship rankings.

  • WHAT WE PROVIDE: Palmetto Shores RV Resort supplies each team with 8 pork butts for the competition (no outside butts allowed). Teams who volunteer to cook more than the minimum are always appreciated. Your entry also includes one campsite with 50-amp power, water, and sewer.

     

    WHAT TO BRING: Each team supplies its own cooking equipment, including grills, ingredients, utensils, tents, tables, chairs, ice, hand sink, wood, gas or charcoal, paper supplies, electrical wire, and hookups.

     

    CAMPSITES & CHECK-IN: RV sites are 35-54 ft long and assigned by resort staff (the resort reserves the right to change a site after assignment). Check in at the front office when you arrive; after-hours arrivals will be contacted to arrange late check-in. We encourage teams to set up serving stations at the front of their campsite facing the road, and to decorate with streamers, banners, flags, and trophies to make the event festive.

    Extra campsites are $50/night (a reduced rate) and are first come, first served while supplies last, so call as early as you can. Don't have a camper? Cabin rentals are also available at standard rates (no discount).

    Please have this ready when you call: your team name, how many extra sites you need, how many nights, the rig length for each additional site, and how many guests will be staying on each additional site or cabin. You'll pay for any extra sites by card over the phone when you reserve.

  • SCHEDULE: Mandatory Chief Cooks meeting Friday 3:00 PM at the pavilion (SCBA Marshal reviews rules). Saturday turn-in 9:50-10:05 AM. Teams ready to serve guests at 11:00 AM. Awards ceremony Saturday 2:00 PM.

     

    FOOD & CONDUCT: Teams may not sell food or beverages to the public - only event tickets may be exchanged for food. Teams may not give alcohol to the public; members are expected to be discreet with their own. The Chief Cook is responsible for the conduct of their team and guests.

     

    SAFETY: Each team must have a 2A:10BC fire extinguisher and comply with the Fire Marshal. Tents over or near grills must be NFPA 701 flame-retardant. All SC DHEC rules will be followed - unsafe practices, raw or undercooked food result in disqualification.

     

    CLEAN-UP: Leave sites intact until after the Saturday 2:00 PM awards. All equipment removed by 11:00 AM Sunday, Oct 4. Teams clean their area before leaving - failure may result in a $100 fine.

     

    WAIVER OF LIABILITY / INDEMNITY: Contestants freely and voluntarily agree to release and forever discharge Palmetto Shores RV Resort, its BBQ Cook-off, the event committee, employees, agents, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind arising from participation in the BBQ Cook-off, and to indemnify and hold them harmless from any claims, costs, liabilities, judgments, expenses, damages, or reasonable attorney's fees arising from any structures erected by or any act or omission of the contestant(s), their agents, invitees, or participants. This event is sanctioned and judged by the South Carolina Barbeque Association; its rules apply and can be found at scbarbeque.com.
