    Please find below a full description of the formal requirements for nominating a candidate to be considered for the Electoral College to elect the next Bishop of Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o Te Wheke.



    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    • Nominations must be made using the forms on this webpage and meet all the required criteria. Please make sure you read and understand all the requirements and follow instructions accordingly.

    • The Nomination process requires candidates to undergo and pass vigorous vetting and screening in order to progress to the Electoral College on 2-3 October, 2026.                                                                                             
    • Nominations that do not follow the criteria, are submitted late or incomplete, and/or fail the vetting and screening process will not be accepted.

    • Applications for Nominations are open from 9am Monday 10 August 2026 until 5pm Wednesday 19 August 2026.


    FORMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION


    The Nomination Process for this Electoral College has the following formal requirements: 

    • NOMINATIONS MUST BE MADE COLLECTIVELY

      Nominations must be made collectively by a recognised local or regional grouping from within Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o Te Wheke. These are:

      Mataatua

      Tauranga-Te Puke

      Te Kaha

      Te Puaha o Waikato-Hauraki

      Waiariki

      Waikato          

                                                                                                                                       

    • Nominating groups must show that they have met, discerned, and agreed collectively to the Nomination.


    • NOMINATIONS MUST INCLUDE ALL REQUESTED INFORMATION

      Nominations must include all the requested documentation and information outlined below. Incomplete nominations will not be accepted.


    • NOMINATIONS MUST COMPLETE THE VETTING AND SCREENING PROCESS

      Nominations must complete the required vetting and screening process as outlined below. Fees and costs associated are the responsibility of the Nominee and/or the Nominating group.

      Early submission and payment for Vetting and Screening will be accepted from today (Monday 10 August 2026). Nominees must evidence that they have paid for and started Vetting and Screening before the formal Nomination window closes.


    • NOMINATIONS MUST MEET THE DEADLINE

      Formal Nominations will be accepted from 9am Monday 10 August 2026 and close at 5pm Wednesday 19 August 2026. No further nominations will be accepted after this deadline.

      Vetting and Screening may continue as required through to 5pm Thursday 10 September 2026.

      Nominations that have met and completed all requirements, include Vetting and Screening, will be announced formally on Friday 11 September 2026.

    (2) FORMAL LETTER FROM THE NOMINATING GROUP

    A formal letter is required from the Nominating group describing:

    - the process used to discern their candidate;

    - on which date the meeting was held to confirm the nominee, and who was present; and 

    - at least three (3) signatures from the Nominating Group committee confirming that you willingly submit to the requirements of this Electoral College process and that along with the Candidate (Nominee) will be responsible for all required costs for vetting and screening.

  • (3) A FORMAL LETTER SIGNED BY THE NOMINEE

    - A formal letter is required to be signed and dated by the Nominee, agreeing to be nominated.

    - The letter must include the statement: "I accept the nomination and willingly submit to the requirements of the Electoral College process. I agree to submit to the screening and vetting process by the required deadline and acknowledge that these must be completed fully before being accepted formally as a candidate for this Electoral College. I confirm that I and the Nominating Group will be responsible for all required costs of vetting and screening."

    - the Nominee must also confirm that they have read and understood 'He Aratohunga Pīhopa A Guide to Episcopal Ministry in Te Hāhi Mihinare’, which provides information on the vocation of Pīhopa in Te Hāhi Mihinare.

  • (4) A FORMATIVE CURRICULUM VITAE FROM THE NOMINEE

    The Nominee must also provide a formative Curriculum Vitae with an overview of their ministry, with particular focus on the last five years. The CV must include the following:

    - Personal Details
    - Tertiary Education and relevant qualifications
    - Employment history
    - Relevant ministry experience
    - Relevant governance, management and leadership experience
    - Relevant church representative experience
    - Relevant voluntary and community work experience
    - Statement of Calling, (a statment as to why the Nominee believes they are called to be considered as a candidate for this Electoral College and why they believe they are suitable to be a Hui Amorangi Bishop).
    - Professional and/or ministry references from at least 3 people that detail your suitability for the role of Hui Amorangi bishop

    Please include a 1 page biography and suitable high resolution photo in your CV. This will be used for public information should you be confirmed as a candidate.

  • (7) FORENSIC REPORT OF ONLINE ACTIVITY

    The Nominee must complete a Forensic Report of Online Activity (including Social Media and Dark Web activity) through Kooyoora.

    The service fee for this vetting process is $2500 AUD and will be invoiced to the Nominating Group. The following form  ForesnicIT Consent Form is to be filled in by the nominee and emailed to electoral.manawa@tpoa.nz Please complete this asap as this process can take time.

  • FORMAL NOMINATION(PART 2):
    VETTING AND SCREENING REQUIREMENTS



    The Vetting and Screening part of the Nomination process is mandatory and can be started anytime from today (Monday 10 August 2026).

    Because the Vetting and Screening is rigorous and has a number of steps, we ask Nominees and Nominators to get this part underway as soon as possible.

    Each of the following must be undertaken and provided:

     

    (5) POLICE VETTING

    The Nominee must provide a Police Vetting Consent Form and two forms of verified ID. One form of ID must be photographic.

  • (6) TE PAE WHĀITI (LEVEL ONE CLEARANCE) VETTING

    The Nominee must complete a Te Pae Whāiti (Level One Clearance) check through Kooyoora. This is an online application that has to be completed in one go.

  • (8) MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

    The Nominee must provide a recent Medical Certificate confirming that they are physically fit to undertake the rigours of the role of a Bishop.

    The Nominee may source this from their own GP or Medical Professional.

  • (9) PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT


    The Nominee must undergo a psychological assessement provided by the registered professional engaged by the Commissary. The fee for this service is $660.00NZD to be paid on invoice.

    The registered professional will provide their report directly to the Commissary where it will be held confidential to this process.

  • (10) LETTERS TESTIMONIAL - SAFE TO RECEIVE

    A formal ‘Safe to Receive’ letter (following the template in Title D Canon VI) from the Nominee's current Bishop or Episcopal Commissary.

    FORMAL COMPLETION OF THE NOMINATION PROCESS


    The Nominations and results of Vetting and Screening will be considered from 20 Aug to 10 September 2026. Nominating Groups will be advised if their Nominee is confirmed to progress to the Electoral College on 2-3 October 2026.

    Nominees who have successfully completed the Nomination, Vetting and Screening process will be confimed as Candidates on the 11 September 2026 by the Commissary.

    By submitting this nomination form,  the Nominating Group and the Candidate (Nominee) agree that they have read and understood He Aratohunga Pīhopa, have completed all questions, completed all screening and vetting requirements and uploaded all letters and documents.
