The FGM 2027 Health Care Survey – for Somali women in Aotearoa New Zealand
Assalaamu Alaykum – you are invited to take part in the FGM 2027 Health Care Survey undertaken by the FGM Education Programme.
The aim of the Survey is to improve the reproductive health and childbirth experiences of women who are affected by Gudniinka living in NZ. It follows on from surveys with Somali women undertaken in 1997, 2008 and 2017 and the findings help provide recommendations for improving the health care services for Somali women. This survey has been discussed and gained approval from the Somali Community leadership in your region.
Participation involves a 30-minute survey and includes questions about childbirth experiences, gaps in health care, Gudniinka education and care, and reproductive health.
Participation in this survey is voluntary and taking part is your choice. Please be assured that:
● Your answers are confidential. Your name will not be written on the survey form, and no answers will ever be linked to you in any report. All survey forms are kept as secure password-protected files.
● Your name is not required and will not be recorded on the survey, and any identifying information will be removed to protect your identity.
● You have the right to withdraw from the survey at any time, skip any question you don’t wish to answer, and stop at any time without giving a reason.
● Only the FGM Education Programme research team will see your individual answers. The answers are used internally only to improve health services and education – and will not be available publicly. We can provide a summary of the survey to participants on request.
● If you experience discomfort answering any of the survey questions, you can pause, skip the question, or stop. Information on support services are provided in the survey.
