Dear Parents,
Congratulations on the birth of your child. On behalf of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Community, I would like to extend to you and your family my warmest wishes. Baptism is a public celebration of one's election by God and the beginning of our journey to Know, Love, and Serve God in His Holy Catholic Church.
We are happy that you are considering baptizing your baby at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Baptisms are held once a month. Below are the requirements that must be fulfilled prior to confirming the date on which your child will be baptized.
1. One parent
must
be registered in our parish for a minimum of 3 months and fill out a parent form indicating that they have met all their requirements. If you are not registered in our parish but live within our boundaries, registration can be easily achieved by attending one of our Orientation and Registration Meetings. For more information ask the parish secretary.
2. One of the parents
must
be a practicing Catholic and have the intention of raising the child in the Faith. In the Church today, we consider "practicing" to be "at least attending Mass" with some regularity. Parents
must
fill out a Parent Information Form.
3. Canon Law only requires only one Godparent but parents often choose two. If there are two, one must be male and the other female, no exceptions. More than two is not acknowledged in the church archives. Godparents
must
be practicing Catholics "in good standing" with the Church. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age, Baptized, Confirmed, and receiving Communion regularly. Individuals who attend Mass regularly and receive Communion free from Mortal Sin are considered "in good standing" with the Church. Sponsors
need to bring certificate of confirmation if single, if married need to bring certificate of Marriage from the Church.
4. Parents and Godparents
must
attend pre-baptismal classes prior to baptism and present certificate of attendance to parish office. The Godparents are also asked to attend classes at their own parish. Godparents
must
return a completed Godparent Form acknowledging that they have met all their requirements.
5. A County Birth Certificate is also required and
must
be presented with your completed packet. All completed forms
must
be submitted to parish secretary
ten days prior
to baptismal date or the baptism will not take place that month.
6. A BAPTISMAL FEE of $75.00 is required and must be paid at time of initial registration.
7. If there is no history of Mass attendance (envelope usage) in our parish, a meeting with the Pastor or Pastoral Associate will be required.

GODPARENTS
Godparents accept the important role of caring for a young person's development and on-going spiritual welfare. Canon Law requires only one godparent for infant baptism. If two godparents are to be employed that one must be male and the other female; both need to be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Catholic church, having received Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. In special cases there may be one Catholic godparent present and one non-Catholic who serves as a witness to the baptism; again one male and one female. More than two godparents or multiplication of godparents is not allowed. (Canon 873)
