The Community Leader of the Year Award is a new award that recognises an individual who shows strong leadership in community recreation and is on a pathway to becoming one of tomorrow’s sector leaders. We are looking for someone whose mahi makes a tangible difference at the community level, especially through initiatives that lift participation, support inclusion, champion sustainability, and strengthen local connections.
The Community Leader of the Year Award recognises outstanding mid-career leaders who are developing community through their exceptional leadership, whanaungatanga and innovative thinking.
This award celebrates those valued team members who consistently deliver excellence and contribute meaningfully to the enhancement, development, and long-term resilience of our communities through recreation.
Nominate a mid-career leader who embodies dedication, innovation, and impact.
Examples of mid-career leaders include, but not limited to; community recreation advisors, community event organisers, activity leaders or programme managers, play advisors and advocates, leaders of kapa haka or cultural groups or youth workers.
The winner of this award will go on to represent the Community Recreation sector in the Recreation Leader of the Year Award, competing alongside finalists from the Aquatics and Parks Leader categories.
