    Through the AABB Foundation Travel Grant Program, students, trainees, and early-career professionals can attend the AABB Annual Meeting, where they gain access to educational sessions, networking opportunities, and professional development experiences that support career growth and leadership development.

    • Eligibility and Available Travel Grants 
    • General Eligibility Criteria

      Applicants generally must:

      • Be graduate students, residents, fellows, or early-career professionals within seven (7) years of completing their terminal degree or entering their professional career.
      • Demonstrate interest and commitment to transfusion medicine or biotherapies.
      • Not be receiving another AABB or AABB Foundation grant or award during the same year.
      • Meet any additional eligibility requirements associated with a specific travel grant opportunity.

       


      Available Travel Grants Opportunities

      Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Grant
      The Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Grant supports early-career biomedical engineers in attending the AABB Annual Meeting. The travel grant is awarded annually to one (1) recipient and provides $2,000 to help offset expenses associated with attending the AABB Annual Meeting, including travel, lodging, childcare, and other related costs.

      Applicants must also:

      • Be biomedical engineers.
      • Demonstrate interest and commitment to developing innovative biomedical engineering solutions to advance patient and donor care.

      AABB Foundation Travel Grant
      The AABB Foundation Travel Grant is designed to support qualified applicants who are not eligible for other AABB Foundation travel grant opportunities. The grant provides up to $1,000 for U.S.-based recipients and up to $1,500 for recipients based outside the United States to help offset expenses associated with attending the AABB Annual Meeting, including travel, lodging, childcare, and other related costs. Multiple travel grants will be awarded, subject to available funding.

      Applicants must also:

      • Be an active member of AABB.
      • Be employed by a nonprofit organization, academic institution, or other non-commercial organization.
      • Not qualify for another travel grant offered by the AABB Foundation.

  • Grant Recipient Expectations and Attestation

    In the event that I receive a travel grant from the AABB Foundation, I understand that I must agree to:

    1. Attend the AABB Annual Meeting in person from October 17–19, 2026.
    2. Participate in scientific and educational sessions.
    3. Share insights gained through the meeting with colleagues at my home institution.
    4. Submit a post-meeting summary within 30 days describing how participation contributed to my professional development, which may be featured on AABB.org.
