    The AABB Foundation Travel Awards Program supports participation in the AABB Annual Meeting, offering recipients valuable opportunities to network with peers, access educational content, and advance their professional development.

    • General Eligibility Criteria

      Applicants generally must:

      • Demonstrate interest and commitment to transfusion medicine or biotherapies.
      • Not be receiving another AABB or AABB Foundation grant or award during the same year.
      • Meet any additional eligibility requirements associated with a specific travel award opportunity.

       


      Available Funding

      Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Award
      The Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Award supports early-career biomedical engineers in attending the AABB Annual Meeting. The award is made annually to one (1) recipient and provides $2,000 to help offset expenses associated with attending the AABB Annual Meeting, including travel, lodging, childcare, and other related costs.

      Applicants must:

      • Be biomedical engineers within seven (7) years of completing their terminal degree or entering their professional career.
      • Demonstrate interest and commitment to developing innovative biomedical engineering solutions to advance patient and donor care.

      AABB Foundation Travel Award
      The AABB Foundation Travel Award provides $250 to recipients based in U.S. and Canada and $500 to recipients based outside North America to help offset expenses associated with attending the AABB Annual Meeting. Eligible applicants will be approved for a travel award on a rolling basis until all available funding has been allocated.

      Applicants must:

      • Not be eligible for other travel support opportunities offered by the AABB Foundation.
      • Have an active AABB membership.

    • Recipient Expectations and Agreement

      In the event that I receive a travel award from the AABB Foundation, I agree to:

      1. Attend the AABB Annual Meeting in person, held October 17–19, 2026, in Atlanta, GA, covering my own registration and expenses and using the travel award to help offset participation costs.

      2. Return a completed travel award acceptance form and a W-9 (U.S. recipients) or W-8BEN (non-U.S. recipients), understanding that travel award funds may be disbursed only after the conclusion of the meeting.

      3. Submit a photo of my registration badge as proof of attendance and, if requested, a brief post-meeting summary describing how attending contributed to my professional development (which may be featured in AABB Foundation communications).

      4. Fulfill any additional requirements associated with receiving a travel award.
