River Hero Home Pledge

Every time it rains, pollutants including sediment, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, bacteria from pet waste, and chemicals flow from our yards into local waterways. This stormwater pollution adversely impacts the health of our rivers and streams and threatens the health of people and wildlife.

River Hero Homes is a community of stewards that realize the first step to a healthier James River starts at home. Every member of the James River Association’s River Hero Homes program receives a membership card, discounts at nurseries and other businesses, a James Changer yard flag, seasonal newsletters, as well as access to workshops and webinars.

Take the Pledge! Implementing river-friendly conservation practices is as easy as properly disposing of waste, using regionally native plants, reducing the use of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, and conserving water.
