The Border Ranges Richmond Valley Landcare Network is scoping community interest for future wetland restoration in the upper Richmond catchment (Kyogle LGA) and Richmond catchments (Richmond Valley LGA).
Wetlands are critical assetts in our environment. They filter water, cycle nutrients, recharge groundwater, and store carbon to combat climate change. Healthy functioning wetlands also contribute to the catchment’s natural infrastructure for mitigating flood risk. They also serve as crucial habitats for countless plant and animal species, supporting biodiversity and sustaining local communities. Despite their importance, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate.
Would you like to improve the environmental values of a wetland, lagoon, backswamp or farm dam on your property? Are you interested in having your site assessed for potential restoration action?
The Kidneys of the Catchment project is focused on the role and function of healthy wetland ecosystems as catchment assets.
At this stage we are gathering contact details of interested people. If this sounds like you, please complete the expression of interest below. No funds are available at the moment - we are scoping interest for future funding applications.
