Why Do We Make & What Moves Us?
What makes you make?
Is it curiosity, joy, hardship, mental health, wellness, beauty, memory, politics, obsession, connection, heartbreak, humor—or simply the irresistible urge to put something into the world?
Making Moves invites artists to explore the forces behind their creative practice. What gets you moving? What ideas won't leave you alone? What experiences demand to be expressed? What makes you pick up the brush, camera, pencil, needle, tool, or instrument and begin?
Your work might explore motivation, inspiration, movement, change, action, emotion, or the creative process itself. It might reveal a deeply personal reason for making—or take a completely unexpected approach to the question.
Maybe you make art to understand.
Maybe you make to remember.
Maybe you make to disrupt.
Maybe you make to connect.
Maybe you make because you simply can't help yourself.
So, what moves you? And where does it take you?
All mediums, styles, and interpretations are welcome. Bring us the work that answers the question—or makes us ask a new one.
