Meir's Upshernish - 3rd Birthday
You're Invited to Meir's Upsherin Celebration! July 26, 2026 3-5 pm at Chabad at La Costa
An Upshernish is a beautiful Jewish tradition marking a boy's third birthday, when he receives his first haircut and begins wearing a kippah and tzitzit. It's a meaningful milestone celebrating the beginning of his Jewish education and growth.
My name is Meir and I'm turning three! My parents are making a party especially for me. It's more than a birthday, as you'll read in this rhyme, We're going to cut my hair for the very first time! The Torah compares a little boy to a tree, Whose fruits are not cut until it turns three. If its roots are well nourished, it will grow strong and pure, Then the little tree, just like me, will always stand secure. My new kippah and tzitzit will announce clear and loud That I'm a Jewish boy and so very proud! I'm so excited, I really can't wait! Please join me as we celebrate!
