Trafficking in the Salon
Recognizing Human Trafficking & Responding with Compassion
Every day, beauty professionals and community members have opportunities to build trust, offer kindness, and create spaces where people feel safe.
While most appointments and everyday interactions are routine, there are times when awareness and compassion can make a meaningful difference.
Trafficking in the Salon is a one-hour live virtual educational session designed to increase understanding of human trafficking while equipping participants with practical tools for responding with empathy, professionalism, and confidence.
Hosted in partnership with The LINK, this conversation is intended to educate—not alarm. Participants will gain a better understanding of what human trafficking is, who may be affected, and why trusted relationships within our communities matter.
This class is appropriate for:
- Beauty professionals
- Cosmetologists
- Estheticians
- Lash and brow artists
- Nail technicians
- Massage therapists
- Students
- Educators
- Small business owners
- Community members who want to learn more
During this session, you'll learn:
- What human trafficking is—and what it isn't
- Common myths and misconceptions
- Who may be vulnerable to trafficking
- Why salons and trusted community spaces can play an important role
- Potential warning signs to be aware of
- Trauma-informed communication and trust-building strategies
- How to respond safely and compassionately
- Local and national resources available for support
One of the most important messages of this training is that you are not expected to become an investigator or rescuer. Instead, you'll learn how awareness, empathy, and knowing where to turn for help can strengthen your ability to care for others while maintaining healthy professional boundaries.
Whether you're a seasoned beauty professional or simply someone who wants to better understand this important issue, you'll leave with practical knowledge, greater confidence, and resources that can help you support your community.
