“NO SECRETS POLICY”
Limitations on Confidentiality in Family and Couples Therapy
Under this “no secrets” policy, the entire couple or family is considered the unit of treatment. Releasing records to third parties requires written authorization from all members of the treatment unit. If individual or smaller sub-group sessions occur, they remain part of the overall unit's therapy. Information shared in individual sessions may be disclosed to the entire treatment unit at the therapist's discretion.
Clients seeking absolute individual confidentiality should work with a separate individual therapist. This policy prevents conflicts of interest and supports the overall treatment goals of the unit. Withholding critical information from the unit may result in the termination of therapy.
Please discuss any questions about this policy with your therapist prior to signing.
